My student's are part of a cohort and I am lucky enough to have the same kiddos as the rest of our IB team of teachers. I plan to collaborate with our school's awesome US History teacher and use these books as the anchor text to discuss marginalization, profiling, media bias, protest, social justice, and tolerance. By using a novel so relevant to what you read in the headlines with great character development, I am hoping to create an emotional connection to the social injustice. Maybe "The Hate U Give" can lead to the compassion we need in today's society.
