  • Hands-on Hand Drums!

    Funded Apr 15, 2015

Thank you so much for your donation to this project and to my classroom. We would not have been able to purchase these materials without your support. These instruments came in just in time! We were able to use these instruments at our end of year concert where we had some members of the band accompany our chorus as they performed a traditional South African Folk Song titled Siyahamba. Your donation allowed us to include the South African percussive accompaniment that we would not have otherwise have. It really brought a whole new sound to the song.

Thank you so much for your contributions. It means so much to see people that still support the arts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

  • Read About Our Needs ... Our Need for Reeds!

    Funded Oct 21, 2014

We have had our first month of band class. I can't tell you how important these reeds are to our band. My clarinet section has already gone through all of the reeds that I had purchased at the beginning of the year. Without your contribution to this project, my clarinets would not be able to keep playing. Beginners work their way through reeds EXTREMELY fast as they are learning how much pressure they need to place on the reed to produce a quality sound.

The music stand cart that you helped purchase has helped keep my room neat and organized, and makes the music stands take up half as much space as they do when they are set up on the floor. The cart also has wheels, so this will be very handy in May when we have to transport everything down to the auditorium for our end of year concert.

Thank you so much. My kids wouldn't be able to learn their instruments without your contributions to this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

  • Drum up the Band "TOO"!!

    Funded Aug 25, 2014

Thank you all for supporting my classroom. We couldn't have purchased the supplies without you. This is the first time in over 20 years that my school has had a band! Your donations helped purchase 4 very crucial items for our percussion section. Most beginning band music is written with parts for bass drum, snare drum, bells and cymbals. We did not own any of those items, and teaching percussion to these students would have been impossible without them!

Our band classes just started last week, and we have a long way to go before our end of year concert, but you have given my students the tools to create, perform, and experience some wonderful music! Thank you for providing the opportunity for quality music education!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

This classroom project was brought to life by Gates Foundation Back To School and 7 other donors.
  • Drum Up The Band!

    Funded Jan 1, 2014

I wanted to thank you for contributing to our classroom project. Because of your generous contributions, we were able to have a full percussion section for concert band and pep band. Having these instruments is such an important part of our performance music. We would not have been able to play most of the music we performed for basketball season and our final concert had we not received these instruments from you. 5 students were able to perform as part of our percussion section, but the entire band was able to benefit from having these instruments in our band.

Thank you so much for your generous donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

  • Our Band Needs a Helping Hand!

    Funded Oct 24, 2013

I wanted to wait until our band was in full swing and my students had an opportunity to use the supplies that you helped to purchase. They are all so excited and eager to learn their instruments. I have a strong clarinet section of 8 out of 30. These guys can't play without the ligatures you helped purchase. I also have a senior trumpet player who is enjoying the fact that he gets to be part of the band before he graduates. He would not have had that opportunity without the mouthpiece that you purchased for him. And of course, the students that get to learn these instruments next year will thank you for purchasing the sterilization solution to clean these instruments before they start using them!

The percussion section is always excited that they get to make noise - and these guys sure did for the last 3 months during our basketball season! Both our boys and girls teams ended up winning their division championships, and the band got to travel to the championship games and play for the teams. That is not an opportunity that comes around every day! Thank you for making all of this possible and showing my students that there are people who do believe in and support the arts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

  • Build Our Band Up: From The Stands Up!

    Funded Jun 13, 2013

The stand cart is a wonderful addition to my classroom. The stands all fit comfortably on the cart, which only takes up about 5 feet of space, and are easily maneuvered in and out of my classroom. This will be extremely helpful in the coming year as we will have to move the stands to and from our performance space. It will be much easier to move all 21 stands at once, rather than carry 2 at a time. This project also gave us 3 more stands to add to the bunch. While our band only contained 10 students this year, we will definitely be growing in the future! I have already had a number of students asking about learning an instrument next year, joining the band, starting a strings program, or performing as part of the Pep Band. It is a relief to know that we will have a number of sturdy. good quality music stands for these groups to use. This way, the students can focus on their instrument and not worry about trying to read music off of a table or unsteady surface.

While many school across the country continue to cut their music programs, it is wonderful to be in a school that is working in the other direction - creating and growing. However, music is an expensive program, so contributions from generous donors like yourselves help to expand our program even more. Thank you for all of your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

  • Take A Stand - With Music Stands!

    Funded Feb 18, 2013

Because of your generosity, I have been able to provide the wonderful experience of playing in a band to my students. Many of these students have never had an opportunity to learn an instrument. In fact, many of them were unfamiliar with the families of instruments before I introduced the idea of band. Since then, I have had students taking their instruments home to practice over school vacations. I have seen some students preparing for auditions for summer music camps and other musical opportunities. I have had some that are just thrilled to have the opportunity to play.

Without these music stands, offering band would have been nearly impossible. I strive to offer my students every possible opportunity. I could not have offered this opportunity without your help. You also helped to fund this project in less than a month. This allowed me ample time to start rehearsals and prepare for our end of the year concert. While our music will be basic this year, we are sure to grow, expand and succeed in the coming years.

    Musically yours,”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

  • From Making Noise to Making Music!

    Funded Jan 12, 2013

I wanted to tell you how important your donation was to our classroom. Because of you, we were able to offer a World Drumming class for the first time. You have made it possible for students to use authentic West African hand drums, to experience the sound and enjoy the process of making music. Students are also exploring the history of these instruments and the World Music. It has become quite a successful class, and it is all because of you. We are now half way through our class and are preparing for an end of the year concert. The students are all participating and enjoying the process of learning about and creating music. Thank you

    Musically yours,”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

  • To Begin to Tubano!

    Funded Jan 12, 2013

I wanted to tell you how much my students and I appreciate your donation of instruments. These drums were very important for our world drumming class. Without the proper instruments or the correct number of instruments, we would not have been able to offer this class. This students really enjoy getting to use authentic West African hand drums and create their own music. This class has been a huge success because of your generosity. Students have even started performing traditional music from other countries for the school and educating their peers about the many uses of music from around the world. Thank you for making all of this possible!

    Musically,”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

  • Voila - it's a Viola!

    Funded Sep 8, 2012

I am so touched that you fully funded our request for a viola. At the beginning of the year, we worked to develop students' goals. This student approached me with their written goal description - to be able to audition for and be accepted to the All-State Orchestra this year. You are helping this student work to achieve their goal. This could not have been possible without an instrument for this student.

You have given us not only the instrument to work toward achieving this goal, but also the time. We now have just under two months to prepare for auditions. This time is invaluable as much of it will be spent practicing audition pieces, scales and sight reading exercises.

This instrument can be used year after year to teach other students how to play a string instrument and possibly provide the opportunity for future All-State auditions.

Thank you cannot even begin to explain my gratitude.

    Very truly and musically yours,

(I apologize for this letter appearing twice)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucini

Those of you who have donated to my classroom in the past, thank you! Your continued support is greatly appreciated! My students come from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds. Because of this, renting or owning an instrument or participating in any type of private musical instruction has not been an option for many of them. However, they are very creative and eager to learn. Prior to my arrival, the school had not had a traditional music program in almost 20 years, and had not had a marching band since the mid 1970's. Your support has helped rebuild the program to restore it to its former glory. I now offer chorus, concert band, marching band, general music and piano. I am continually in need of a variety of instruments and supplies to stock my classroom and prepare the ensembles. Your continued support will help my students achieve their next musical endeavor - whatever it may be!
