Inclusion and Diversity Library
Funded Sep 11, 2023I truly appreciate your support of our diversity library. The students across all grade levels have been enjoying coming to my office to check them out simply to read for fun.
It has been wonderful to watch their enthusiasm for reading grow because they see themselves in these books. Students who are non-readers enjoy them as well, even if they are just looking at the pictures.
The materials provided have also lent themselves to inclusion and diversity lessons in the classrooms. Teachers have asked to check them out in order to do social emotional lessons, art projects, and writing assignments.
I can not thank you all enough.”

Funded Nov 10, 2021We cannot thank you enough for your very generous donation. In our classroom, we love to read. My students read for enjoyment and will often ask if they can read during Independent Work Time, rather than working on their devices. We read all types of texts daily. There is flexible seating available for them to bring even more joy to reading for them. You can see them reading on the rug, or in groups at their tables and at the round table on the wobble chairs.
We used the new books during Black History Month, in order to create book reports. Students worked in small groups and discussed the story assigned to them. Each group discussed the characters, beginning, middle, and end of the story, as well as the plot. We discussed the reason why it is important to read books about children that look different than we do, and why we want to support authors of color.
My students loved the books, and each book is now available for them to read. I didn't want them to be limited to the story that was assigned to them. The kids make connections from these stories to other stories. One student in particular made a chant for the "Big Hair, Don't Care" book. I can not tell you how excited they were!”

Funded Aug 12, 2020I cannot thank you all enough for your donations towards the art supplies for my students. Even though we were not in the classroom to see the arrival of the materials, they were still excited to pick them up and go through them. It was like watching them open presents. The smiles on their faces were priceless.
Every Friday, we do art. Needless to say, it's their favorite day of the week. Projects can be based on many things; season, holiday, a book, an artist, etc... One of their favorite projects so far was the "Crankenstein" project. It was based on the book by Samantha Berger. They were very excited to create frankensteins based on their cranky selves. They came up with some great pictures.
As we move into our science unit, we will be doing art projects based on the animals and plants we will be learning about. Art is great on its own, but when combined with other content, it brings new meaning to that content. It's really an amazing way to help kids learn and understand concepts. This learning couldn't be acheived without your donations.”

Funded Jul 27, 2018Thank you so much for supporting my engineering project. When I first showed them the boxes, they were so excited. Some of them had experience using them, but many of them had not. At first, they were allowed to just explore the the Magna-Tiles to see what they could create, then they were asked to work with a partner or in a group of three to create a structure. They were so engaged in the activity, we forgot about recess. The Magna-Tiles help the kids meet the engineering standards and they love using their hands to build things. They are becoming problem solvers right before my eyes. Our next challenge, building a bridge. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity.”

Funded Oct 17, 2015Thank you so much for your donations. The Wobble chairs have not only been effective in helping my more active students focus better they have been a hot commodity in the classroom for those who do not need them. The students are really enjoying them.
We use the chairs in multiple ways. We use them in small groups so our struggling students can better focus. Our small group table is set up with the chairs. The more active students in the small groups are assigned the Wobble chairs so that they can get the most out of their small group instruction. The chairs allow them to move just enough so that they don't have to concentrate on their bodies, but instead can concentrate on the instruction. And, they aren't distracting others which is a bonus.
Another way we use the Wobble chairs in class is for individual students during whole group instruction. This allows the most active of my students an opportunity to move while learning, without distracting others. There has been a major decrease in students falling off their chairs. Yay!
Lastly, we use them as a reward in our class. So many of the students enjoy them, that they want to use them even if they don't need them. So, we have set one chair aside as a reward chair for those students who would not otherwise experience the Wobble chair. It's a hot prize on Friday.
I can't thank you enough. My students were so excited when they first saw them and continue to enjoy and benefit from them on a daily basis.”

Bringing Learning To Life With Technology!
Funded Jan 23, 2012This is a small token of appreciation for your generous donation to my classroom. They technology that you donated has helped my students every day. We have used the equipment to present math lessons and to build vocabulary. In addition, the Leap pads have been used to help my struggling readers become more fluent and skilled.
Our school and district are currently experiencing a budget shortfall, so your donations have been vital in improving student achievement. Without your donations, these students would not have the opportunity to experience learning in a technologically relevant manner.
I cannot thank you enough.”
