  • Rolling into Math with Sphero SPRK+ STEAM Educational Robot

    Funded Sep 28, 2018

This is the best grant I have ever written. The Sphero robots have been used in my classroom to teach math, Social Studies, reading, corporations, and programing. It is amazing how many different ways we can use Sphero in the classroom.

My student love programing Sphero. I have shared the robots with another class and we built a replica of our community . Students then wrote reports about their community. Then the classes joined together to run Sphero through the community to explain their buildings.

We used Sphero to practice our math fact to 10. Students would bowl and knock down bowling pens, then they would complete a chart to say I had 10 pens, I knocked down 4 pens, now I have 6 pens left. They children can play this game without the teachers intervention.

We played counting by 5's and ran Sphero across the board counting by 5's.

This grant has been the biggest influence to my class in a long time. We love Sphero, Thank you for the donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Seyffert

  • I Can Hear You Loud and Clear

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

Thank you for supporting my Donors Choose grant. This grant provided my class with 16 pairs of headphones. These headphones are used daily in my class. We use iPads to listen to books using Raz Kids. Student listen to books and take reading quizzes online. We also record ourselves reading to work on reading fluency.

It is such a relief to tell student to go and listen to the books on their iPads and know I will not be interrupted during small groups because the headphones do not work. It also helps my classroom management because each child has his or her own headphones with their name on them. They do not fight over the headphones anymore. It makes my life a little easier.

I am very grateful you supported my students. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please know my students are very pleased with the headphones.

    Sincerely,

    Deborah Seyffert”

  • Leaping Into A Good Book With Leap Frog

    Funded Dec 13, 2011

I personally want to thank each one of you for supporting my class project. I can not describe how much the students enjoy reading with the Leap Frog Tag Readers and I enjoy the headphones. I get a warm feeling each time a student ask if they can read with Leap Frog when they have finished their work. I also think it has improved my tardies because students are allowed to read freely before the bell rings in the morning. They ask parents to get them to school before the bell so they can read with Tag Readers. One of my parents asked me what Leap Frog was, I gladly explained what the student was talking about. They love using them. I like the fact that the students are reading books and learning during free time. Since I have had the Tag readers, three first grade classes have asked the school for Tag readers also. They have come into my room and observed my students reading quietly and happily. I am planning on using them for my reading center next year.

Thank you again for your support. I really am very happy you supported my class.

    Thank you,

    Deborah S.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Seyffert

Have you ever stood in front of a class and had to give an oral report? Well my class has a new way of reporting what they have learned by using iPads. We can make movies, make our art work come to life, and record ourselves reading books. My students live in a rural part of South Carolina and they are taught to make the most of their education. This grant will provide my class with headphone so they can listen to books online and can record themselves reporting on information they have learned. I teach 20 first grade students in a rural school. I want the students to think outside the norm and to look for new ways to express themselves. We are planning on using lots of programs to share our learning with our friends and families.
