  • Pen, Paper, and Poetry: Writing Our Way to Peace

    Funded Jan 13, 2025

Thank you for believing in the brilliance that lives in the Bronx! My students are excited to have a refreshed cozy corner and cool pens to pen their poetry. They have been working hard all school year long. This donation comes at the perfect time to reinvigorate their drive. We appreciate your generosity!”

  • Let's Get Lit!

    Funded Jan 19, 2024

As an English teacher for the last 17 years, I try my best to spark the fire of excitement for reading. Sometimes it works, and they devour the books given to them and have to wait weeks, sometimes months for other books of their liking to arrive. Many teachers purchase supplemental reading books for their students to nix their waiting. When these boxes of books arrived, my students lit up! Students who were avoidant readers were among the first to sign out and return books after reading them. Students I don't teacher have come to my room looking for new reads. Having these books have given students an escape they very much need during this long school year. We thank you for your generous donation.”

  • Making Our Way: Crafts and Community

    Funded Jan 8, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donations. Students have been able to let their creativity flow and use crochet club as an outlet for their senior year stress. Many of them have excelled so quickly, they constantly seek out new, more challenging projects to complete. Although crochet club can't replace art, student appreciate a small moment in their day to express their creativity. Students who are normally quiet and reserved in class have gained new popularity amongst their classmates as their creations are quite impressive.”

  • Let's Make Classrooms Comfy, Again

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Thank you for your generous donations. At present, this is the 2nd project my students and I have received funding for to flush out our cozy corner / reading nook. We are grateful to be able to add to a corner of reprieve for my students. That corner has grown from just space for students who are having tough days in class to relax while working and decompressing. Now, that space is a space that motivates students to get to class early. It is also a space where students are able to relax to during their lunch time. Both ways, it provides students with a space and moment for peace and rest, which is necessary throughout the school day.”

  • The One Where They Make their Classroom Comfy

    Funded Apr 6, 2023

Since the students have received your donation, they have used my room as their place of respite and ease during their school day. Our cozy corner is a place for rest, and friendship and a space where they can take a break from their demanding schedule.

The students helped to choose the items and were extremely excited to open each one. They are protective of the space and often correct students who are using the area improperly, because they want to make sure they are able to relax and unwind in their corner for a long while.

Since we have received the project items, the students have chosen to decorate another teacher's classroom they frequent with the extra lights so that they can extended their safe space, at least partially. Additionally, we have added to our cozy corner with a subsequent Donors choose project, so our corner is extra cozy now.”

  • Hooking Back Up: Crochet Club Needs Help Stitching It Together

    Funded Nov 12, 2022

Thank you so much for contributing to our crochet club. Students spend their lunch periods de-stressing and bonding. Some members of the crochet club are legacy crocheters. They are interested in continuing a hobby passed down from their family. Others are new and use this time to bond with friends while learning a new skill. Either way, your donation has provided them with the materials they enjoy to continue hooking along. Many of them have taken interest in making "plushies" and they were too excited to see all the plush and chunky yarns we were gifted as a result of your generous donations.

Watching them open the packages were a delight. The crochet member gathered in my classroom after school, and opened each package with glee. They organized their new materials and researched projects that they planned to create.

Crochet club is not only a way for students to unwind during their busy day, it also provides me with the opportunity to build bonds with them outside of the English classroom. I am known as the "tough" teacher because I consistently push them to meet higher expectations. So it is nice to be able to talk to them in a relaxed environment as we crochet together.”

  • Blue Printer to Help Scholars Make Their Mark

    Funded Feb 4, 2021

Working in a language classroom, we work tirelessly to bring texts to life. As an educator, I have committed to making learning fun and relatable. My school is supportive of this. However, many times, the texts my students are interested in reading are unavailable to be ordered via the channels we are allowed to order them. THIS is where you all came in. By providing us with a working printer during the pandemic, I was able to print the PDF versions of texts I scanned and mail it to student who preferred hard copies of texts. Now that we are headed back to the classroom, the color printing feature will be useful in printing student work to be displayed around our room. Although most people think colorful, print and art rich classrooms are most beneficial to younger grades, the environment we create with hanging works of our students in upper grades creates a deep impact as well. My students are proud to look at their colorful, digital works when they enter and it makes a difference in the energy in our rooms.

As we move to a world that has become more digital and less tangible, I anticipate many of my students loving the option to have physical copies of texts or art they hold dear to them. Thank you for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Ho Sang

I teach students with special needs. They do not have access to printed materials. Many of them ask. With this printer, I will be able to print lesson resources in advanced and mail it to them to help assist their learning. Hard copies of text have been proven to allow students to engage on a deeper level with the text. For students with disabilities, this is key to cultivating independent understanding. Without printed materials, they often lose focus and struggle to meet their goals. Although we are moving to a digital age, printed word is still King.
