  • Middle School Today, Published Authors Tomorrow!

    Funded Jan 18, 2024

The impact of this innovative approach has been nothing short of transformative. Since the incorporation of tablets into my lessons, there has been a noticeable surge in student engagement and enthusiasm for learning. The interactive and dynamic nature of tablet lessons has effectively captured the attention of my students, making the learning process more enjoyable and, consequently, more effective. The integration of multimedia elements, interactive quizzes, and educational apps has created an immersive learning experience that aligns seamlessly with the technological era in which we live.

One of the most notable benefits has been the personalization of learning. Tablets have allowed students to progress at their own pace, catering to individual learning styles and needs. The adaptive nature of the applications used has facilitated differentiated instruction, ensuring that every student receives the support and challenge necessary for their academic growth.

Furthermore, the accessibility of resources on tablets has greatly enriched my curriculum. Students now have instant access to a vast array of educational materials, e-books, and reference materials, promoting independent research and enhancing their overall understanding of the subjects. This increased access to information has not only broadened their knowledge base but has also fostered a sense of curiosity and a love for learning.”

  • After School Snacks

    Funded Apr 14, 2023

It is with great gratitude and appreciation that I submit this impact letter to you for your kindness and willingness to give, toward "After School Snacks"

With the awesome snacks, I was able to supply my students with a bag full of goodies that they were able to enjoy.

Our after school activities are usually highly anticipated and full of fun and excitement and it breaks my heart when I don't have enough snacks for them.

This bag of treats made up for after school fun, that they won't get otherwise, goes a long way.

Thank you for your kind and generous donations! We are very appreciative!!"”

  • Headphones for My Amazing Students!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Public schools these days struggle to acquire necessary school resources with their allocated state funding. Teachers often pull from their own pockets to maintain a fully functional classroom and meet all their students' needs.

When you donate useful supplies, you alleviate financial pressure off classroom teachers like myself. You enable someone like me to educate their students with essential materials. The importance of donating things like headphones for a classroom may get overlooked because many schools have been trying to catch up with Covid-19 responses and protocols however these types of classroom tools are just as necessary as always.

I simply cannot put into words hoe honored I am to teach such amazing, wonderful students. They are truly the future of this world. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for contributing to my classroom. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for being there for them.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Bugge

  • In the Middle - Printing Supplies

    Funded May 13, 2019

I am sincerely thankful to you on behalf of my Middle School Publishing class for donating through Donors Choose. Your donation will ultimately bring a change in the lives of my Publishing students because they are able to print their work more freely. Your contribution in this regard is highly appreciated.

I would also like to inform you that with the money provided by you, it has become easier for us to publish and manage our school newspaper. A student-run newspaper is an outlet for students to be creative with their voices. It allows them to generate ideas, gives them permission to safely express those ideas, and teaches them critical thinking skills they'll need later on in life when faced with an abundance of information outlets.

In this digital age and with so many other avenues of communication available to us, it seems that a school newspaper is outdated and irrelevant, imparting news that has already been hashed to death over social media and student texting. There is some validity to that when you only consider school news that has already been captured by cell phones, tablets, and other avenues of communication. However, that is not the reason for having a school newspaper.

Even in the days when such technology didn't exist, newspapers were not the primary source of information for the student body. The final score of a game or who the king and queen of the homecoming game were may fill up space in a newspaper, but it was always information that the majority of the student body already knew. In that regard, nothing has changed.

Students of any age need the freedom to express themselves in a manner that is respectful, thoughtful, and accepted. A newspaper can give those outspoken individuals a voice that is done in a way that brings credibility to the writer as well as to the school. It also allows teachers and administration to monitor the content to ensure appropriateness and relevance.

Regardless of the way technology evolves and changes, there will always be a need for writers and those with the skill to turn a word and voice an opinion. The pen is still mightier than the sword as Twitter, Facebook, and other social media outlets have rediscovered. All these outlets do is give people a voice, a form of journalism.

Writing is a skill. Editing is a skill. Design and layout are skills. Photography is a skill. A newspaper can provide the basis to learn these skills, enhance these skills, or refine these skills. Students involved in a newspaper c can put into practical application the skills being taught to them in the classroom. One significant difference is that the newspaper isn't a homework assignment and won't be seen as such. It is an elective. They do it because they want to.

I, once again, would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity. You have brought a smile on all of our faces, and we are grateful to you for the same.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Bugge

  • Classroom Supplies

    Funded Dec 27, 2018

In my years as an English teacher and school newspaper adviser, I found nothing more valuable for teaching the craft than showing students how the professionals do it. From interviewing and reporting to photography and page design to making ethical decisions to exerting First Amendment rights, creating and printing a school newspaper proved to be a valuable experience.

Perhaps, in turn, the pros can take a page from the students. Amid serious questions about the future of the newspaper industry, student journalism has become an exciting vehicle for many students and their voice.

Students are excited about journalism, and as passionately committed to their newspapers. Having the resources in our classroom to help print copies of the school newspaper has been a game changer in my elective class.”

  • Classroom Helpers

    Funded Feb 23, 2018

My project has been funded, and my students and I are all tremendously excited! With your support, we will be able to turn my class into a more engaging place, where the students will be able to get their hands on some of the more interesting labs, instead of them being done as a teacher demonstration. I am confident that this will increase interest, and thus understanding.

This funding has come right on time. Looking ahead at my lessons for the coming months, I will be able to use all of these materials in an exciting and appropriate way to fuel student learning and achievement. One more time, thanks so much!”

  • 3D Printer

    Funded May 28, 2017

When I first got the 3D printer, I wasn't sure what to expect. There's been a lot of hype around 3D printing in education, and even as a communications teacher at my school, I wasn't sure how my students and colleagues would take to it. However, It is deeply meaningful learning.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Imagine if students could hold that picture as a 3D object, one that they designed and created, in their own hands. It changes how they see and understand the world.

It leads to deeper conversations. 3D printing helps students develop critical-thinking and creative problem-solving skills. For example, one of my students just created a prototype of LEGO. Another group of students is searching for a way to make braces that would allow them to eat anything they want.

It raises engagement. One of the most surprising impacts of 3D printing has been on classroom management. I have zero behavior issues. My students are motivated. They want to print. They leave their issues at the door because they are intrinsically motivated by the idea of creating their own inventions.

It inspires kids to think big. My mantra in my junior high classroom is What is your legacy? What are you going to leave behind here? 3D printing is allowing them to create their own legacies.

Thank you for helping them create their future.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Bugge

My students need technology integrated into all of their classrooms. They will become well rounded learners if they can apply what they know in each classroom they visit during the day! Our students are from many different backgrounds and walks of life. Our school is a large, public, Title I Middle School that has a small community feel! The students all bring something unique and wonderful to our classroom discussions. They are so full of wonder and come to school with a passion to learn. Our students appreciate our school because it gives them a safe place to learn and grow! We want to integrate technology into all subject areas. If whiteboard technology is learned in one room it should also carry over into another, so students are comfortable using it. By having the use of technology in more classes our school would have a more cohesive feel! Please consider donating to help enrich our student's lives.
