Most American students study one play in high school, and many teachers wished their students found his words to be relevant today. I am creating Shakespeare book clubs using his "problem plays." Students love reading literature when they find ways to connect characters' lives to their own. Measure for Measure, Othello, The Merchant of Venice, and The Winter's Tale deal with the problems that arise when society and governments clash, resulting in chaos and confusion. I plan to bring 16th century Shakespeare to 21st century students. His words live on!
