  • Academic Aces: A PBSIS Ice Cream Social Reward

    Funded Sep 10, 2024

Thank you so very much for your support of our PBSIS program. Instead of ice cream, we had cookies and hot chocolate during February for our Marking Period 2 Academic Aces students.

Your continued support of all things for mental health is so gratefully appreciated. These students were rewarded for being positive global citizens. They were nominated by their teachers not just for doing well in school, but for being an example of responsibility, respect, success, and all of the other pillars of our PBSIS program.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. McCoy

  • Hands-on Labs in COVID Times

    Funded Sep 22, 2021

I am so incredibly happy that this project has been funded and that the carts are already in use! This makes the labs easier for three chemistry teachers to prepare labs, and to efficiently hand out supplies during yet another crazy year. Thank you for your generosity and support for public school teachers and STEM in particular.

Nothing has been easy these last couple of years for anyone, and as teachers we have felt all of our feelings and our student's feelings as well. It is nice to finally have some positive things following not only all that COVID has brought but also massive flooding in our school district that delayed the start to this year. Thanks again!”

  • Help Me Replace the Dinky Board!

    Funded Aug 6, 2019

Thank you for your generous donations, which have given me the ability to write more than a one step math problem on the board! My students benefit everyday from from this large dry erase board and enjoy going up to the board to show their work.

I cannot than you enough for your continued support. My students appreciate all of the extras that we have been able to use in our classroom thanks to the donors here at DonorsChoose.org. You guys are the best and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

  • 21st Century Lab Equipment

    Funded Jun 18, 2019

I love this new lab equipment, and my students had a great time logging their data in real time using either their phones or our chromebooks. It was very cool to see their enthusiasm for what used to be a rather mundane lab. None of my AP students has ever used a colorimeter before, so I showed them how to operate the old-style machine and then showed them the new ones. They were quite impressed with the ease of data collection and overall operation of the Neulog set.

This year our lab is undergoing renovations and we are housed in temporary space. So it was awesome to have some new equipment that is small and easy to move between my room and the temporary lab. It was also fantastic to be able to give my students a glimpse into what a more modern chemistry lab experience will be.

Thank you for all of the support- my students and I are eternally grateful.”

  • STEM Learning to Solve Ocean Acidification and Acid Rain

    Funded Mar 20, 2019

Thank you once again for your continued support of my classes! My students were thrilled to create their own procedures for this lab and to collect samples from various waterways in our area. It has been fantastic to be able to have more groups using working pH meters at the same time!

My students are always grateful for new equipment and they are always surprised when complete strangers donate money to help with their education. The fact that there are people out there who are not their family that care enough about their education to donate to my classroom projects is overwhelming. Thank you!”

  • Tissues + Clean Hands = Less Sick Days

    Funded Jan 17, 2019

I cannot thank you enough for supporting the health of my students during the tough winter months and into an allergy ridden spring. The student who tried our new tissues first said to me "Wow, these are so much better than the ones we used to have!"

I like to keep a box in the front of the classroom and one in the back so no one has to far to go when they need a tissue. We also keep the hand sanitizer in both the classroom and lab and often have students from the hall stopping in for a pump.

I did have one student who came down with the flu, but thanks to our supplies the rest of us managed to stay healthy! Thanks again to Clorox for matching donations and the amazing donors who helped get us supplied in time for flu season and to keep us supplied through the end of the school year. You are the best!”

  • Lab Equipment for AP Chemistry STEM Labs!

    Funded Dec 31, 2018

I cannot tell you how amazing it is to have this project funded. My students were thrilled to come to school after winter break to learn we had new lab equipment arriving the next day. They are looking forward to being the first ones to use the new pH meter and I have had to promise to rotate it among the lab groups for the next several labs so that they can all use it! Thank you all for your support and I know it makes my students feel so good to have complete strangers that care and that want them to have everything they need to succeed. We are truly grateful!”

  • Can Solutions Conduct Electricity?

    Funded Aug 21, 2018

Thank you for helping to enrich my students STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) education through hands on experiments!

My students are happiest on lab days when they can work in small groups and complete experiments designed to enhance their classroom experience. They had such fun predicting which solutions would conduct electricity and which ones would not and then being able to test those predictions with our new conductivity testers!

The new counter-top distiller gets used all the time and was an integral part in my being able to perform labs starting the second week of school. I am so grateful for the support of my community and the match from Craig Newmark!”

  • What IS pH?

    Funded May 10, 2018

As always, I thank you for your amazing support! I am so grateful for the new supplies, which will allow my students to complete several new STEM labs. They are looking forward to learning about hydrogen power (better known as pH )and trying out the new pH meters. On back to school night, I had the privilege of showing the parents of my new students all of the awesome new STEM toys (laboratory equipment, supplies, and even shelving units) that I have gotten through the generous donors here at donors choose. Thank you for supporting my vision of science education in public schools!”

  • Slime, Bouncy Balls and Oobleck!

    Funded May 8, 2018

My students had so much fun this morning making slime! It's nice to see kids who have been extremely stressed out for the last few weeks relax and just be kids! They had such fun picking colors and watching the reaction happen. Several were nervous to touch it with their hands (we were in lab after all), but once they got their hands dirty they were hooked! For a change I got a glimpse of these impressive high school Juniors and Seniors as little kids just having fun with science. Best lab day so far! Next week- bouncy balls and oobleck! Thank you for this memorable experience!”

Our school is very proud of our diverse population of students with 51 different languages spoken in our students homes. We are a suburban district that is surrounded by struggling urban schools. Many of our students have parents whose primary language is not English and have not graduated from high school. More than half of our students live in poverty and these factors make it difficult for them to span the achievement gap. Each year the demographics of my classroom change. Though the faces are different, the goal remains to not only give these kids a strong foundation of chemistry, but to support their efforts in all facets of their life. From band to dance, sports or after school jobs, my students are busy! They are also smart, hardworking, overachievers that I hope to help achieve their goals of going to prestigious universities to further their academic careers.
