The learning styles and needs of young children require experiences that are tactile, visual, and auditory. Young children need practice with many concepts that are part of pre-reading, emergent reading, and early math learning. Early Childhood students gain from working together, guided by a teacher, while also needing to work at their own speed and skill level. Implementing tablets as a learning device will provide unique and rich learning opportunities for my class. Having a set of tablets will allow for different structures of learning in my class. One way they will be used is as a listening center. Students can choose and listen to stories on their own. Another way they be used is as a learning center. The children use different literacy websites that are interactive yet educational. One area my students struggle with is their fine motor skills. The tablets will allow the students to better practice their skills in math and literacy. My students will no longer struggle to manipulate a mouse without success. I could download apps for various math and literacy practice skills, which would allow me to have activities for different learning abilities. Giving low-income students access to new technology is an investment in their future. Students who are confident in their reading and math abilities will be ready to face the challenges of higher education.
