Reading to Learn
Funded Sep 29, 2009I don't think I will be able to ever express to you how grateful I am for all of your wonderful donations to my class and school. The books you donated have helped teach my students about holidays and traditions. We have only read about half of the books so far and have much more learning and discovery to do.
As you are well aware things are tight all over, including in my class. It is nice to know there are such wonderful people out there helping students to succeed!
Everytime we read our books we will think of the wonderful donors as yourself and how you made literacy a reality for us.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Dowd
Phonics is Phun!
Funded Sep 21, 2009Phonics has never been more fun! Learning sound and reading patterns can be a chore for kids. However the new phonics manipulatives you have so generously donated to our class has really inspired my students.
We use our phonics letters all the time to learn our words. We manipulate the tiles to blend sounds, and make new words, all while having fun! These tools have especially benefited my students who struggle with reading, the tiles make learning to read a game.
Without your generous donation my students would never realize the benefit of such a wonderful resource. Thank you for inspiring my students to read!.”

Learning To Read With The Listening Center
Funded Sep 19, 2009This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation of a listening center and books to my classroom.
Today was the first day my students had the opportunity to use their new listening center. You should of seen how excited they were when I presented the headphones and book. We listened to "The Gingerbread Man." Using the listening center is such a great way for emergent readers to practice fluency and to access stories that would typically be too difficult to read on their own.
We anticipate many wonderful years with our new listening center and plan to create many lovers of literacy.
Investing in our children is best investment one can make.Thank you for investing in us.”

Math Wizards!
Funded Sep 15, 2009We have just received our math supplies, and I will be taking pictures soon so you can see just how our class is benefiting from your generous donation.
We use our unfix cubes every day, they are indispesible. We use them for addition, subtraction, word problems, and much more. They are a necessity in the first grade. I don't know how we survived without them.
We love our new place value supplies as well. Place value is such an abstract concept, and the supplies are helping solidify this concept. Right now we are using our pocket chart daily. You should see the kids light up as they count the straw! Today was the 27th day of school, they can tell you know thanks to your donation that the 2 is in the tens place and they can even show you what that looks like with their new supplies.
WIth your generous gift my students have the potential to succeed! Who knows maybe some of my kids will become advisers or brokers at JP Morgan Chase! Thank you for supporting our future.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Dowd
Mummies...Mysteries...Oh My!
Funded Jan 20, 2009Our class is so grateful for your generous donation, the kids were thrilled to find out that the next novel they will be reading is the Egypt Game. Since we have just studied Egypt in Social Studies the kids are ready to delve in and learn more. We have recently mummified our own pharaoh "King Kluck" (A Freezer Chicken) so the kids have great prior background knowledge on the topic of Egypt, mummies, pharaohs, etc... so now they are ready for a little mystery!
What a better way to foster an appreciation for reading through current novels that kids really enjoy! Without your support we would not be reading this novel. I can't thank you enough for your generosity.
