  • The Art of Fun

    Funded Jul 20, 2018

Thank you for donating to our project "The Art of Fun." We have been slowly introducing each one of the games, activities, and books you have graciously donated us. The kids have had a blast learning about art through trivia games, card games, and bingo. The students rush to use the activities during their free time. They think they are playing, when in fact they are really learning.

The drawing books are so engaging that the kids can't keep their noses out of them. Even though I teach middle school, we forget they are kids. So providing activities in a fun format is super engaging. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd

  • Sewing in Life Skills

    Funded Mar 16, 2018

What a wonderful gift! The kids were so excited to choose their cross stitch kits. Most of our students have never sewn a stitch, let alone hold a needle. So this was a real treat. Although the project was challenging for some, the kids all accomplished their projects. Each student was able to take home a fully cross stitched picture, as well as the pride that came with accomplishment of learning basic sewing.

Some of my students asked where they could go to purchase more supplies so hey could create their own projects. Somme students found this to be therapeutic, and found a new way to cope with middle school stress. This donation really benefited our kids.”

  • Textile Arts

    Funded Feb 24, 2017

My students are having so much fun learning to sew! What a great way to introduce them to sewing and textile design. Everyone has really been getting into it, and I can't believe how creative they have been at changing and creating their patterns and coming up with new designs. The skills the students are gleaning from this lesson will last them a lifetime.

Again, I truly can not thank you enough for bringing such a hands on activity into our classroom. The kids faces say it all! They love sewing and textile design!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd

  • Weaving In Creativity

    Funded Apr 15, 2016

This has been such a wonderful opportunity! The kids were so excited to weave their own art. They were truly amazed at the process and really enjoyed themselves.

In addition to learning how to weave, we learned about the history of weaving as well. We also looked at many beautiful examples of weaving through history and the kids could not even believe how elaborate some of the pieces were.

They truly developed a love and appreciation of textile arts. This would not of been possible without you!”

  • Future Disney Animators

    Funded Dec 17, 2015

Our students were so excited to find out they were going to create their own animated, claymation movies.

I have never seen our kids so eager to write (writing, scripts.) The kids worked together to write their own original screenplays about a ball of clay that evolved into different objects. The kids were able to wear the hat of a writer, storyboard artist, set director, animator, and editor. They worked together to collaborate and produce their films. At the end of the project we had a viewing party. We also screened our films at open house.

We had a blast and learned so Michigan thank you so much for bringing creativity into our classroom.”

  • Creating Our Own Lego Movie

    Funded Nov 16, 2015

Our students are having a wonderful time with the generous grant you have given us. The students have been writing scripts, designing backgrounds, and characters and filming their own Lego movies. The students are working collaboratively, using their imaginations and having a great time.

A lot of the adults around campus have been getting in on the action too. Who doesn't love Lagos and animation?

Thank you for sparking creativity and encouraging writing and art in our classroom. We are so happy to use these supplies year after year and teach the craft of animation to future generations.”

  • Expanding Our Ceramics Program

    Funded Oct 13, 2015

We have completed several ceramic projects thanks to your generous donations. The kids have learned how to make pinch pots, coil pots, and slab boxes. They are currently making clay monsters that they designed themselves. They have learned about the history of ceramics and have a new appreciation for the ceramic mugs they use.

The kids have enjoyed getting their hands dirty and I know this will be an experience they carry with them. You should of seen their faces when they opened up the kiln to see their fired and glazed pieces. It was like Christmas morning. Again thank you for giving our students the gift of ceramics.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd

  • Expressive Sculptures

    Funded Apr 22, 2015

We had so much fun learned about sculptor Isamu Noguchi. We were even surprised to find out he has a sculpture garden in our neighboring city.

The kids leaned about form, sculpture and expressionism. They had a blast making their sculptures. They all came out amazing and were each so unique and personal.

The kids expressed how difficult sculpture was and were even more amazed when they thought about sculptors who work in stone. This was not online lesson in creation but art history and appreciation as well.

Thank you for bringing learning to life!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd

  • Creating a Painting Unit

    Funded Dec 19, 2014

Our student's feel like true artists. They have never had the privilege of painting on real canvas or using acrylic paints. it is such a blessing to have truly fine art materials. The kids have commented how easily the paints glide on their canvases, and they don't have to worry about their paper ripping, or applying to much paint. They are free to create art and now have the materials to do so.

Without this gift we would not be able to have a painting unit, our kids would not know what it is like to hold a brush in their hand, and how colors mix. You have brought so much joy and inspired our students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd

  • Future Disney Artists

    Funded Oct 28, 2014

We have just started to use our new art mannequins and the kids love them! What a fun way to learn about human proportion and practice their observational skills. We have just started creating a still life with our mannequins and the kids drawing skills have really improved in the short time we have had them. We are also really looking forward to improving our pencil drawing techniques with our new pencil sets. it blew the kids minds to know that there is more to a pencil than just a #2.

Again thank you for all the supplies needed to make our art department the envy of the district.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dowd
