Tea Anyone?
Funded May 7, 2020This has been a learning curve for us all. Due to increased cases of COVID-19, I have not seen my students in almost a year. We are still learning virtually, and it has been rough on majority of the students. They are ready to learn. They are ready to use every resource provided. I wish I could share more positive news than this, but alas it is life at the moment.
I did not want a year to pass by before I expressed gratitude. So, I am formally thanking you for funding my project. I appreciate your giving from the bottom of my heart. It's truly amazing for anyone to spare funds during this global pandemic. My students and I are so appreciative and we're looking forward to returning to school. We are excited to use every resource that was purchased in this project. Once we reconvene instruction, in person, I will document moments of students enjoying these resources from "Tea Anyone." It will be a top priority to send thank you notes and photos. Again, I thank you and wish you a safe 2021.”

Funded Jun 19, 2019I thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating to my classroom. My students' education has been changed for the better through your generous donations. The resources that you provided has blessed the students to improve significantly within their content and elective classes. The dictionaries, headphones and calculators were a well-needed bonus to the limited resources already provided for these students.
My students were utterly shocked when I unveiled the new resources. Believe or not, several of the teenagers asked if we could order more! I have never seen such smiles and pride from my students before revealing your donations. Despite their current level over the English language, anyone can tell that they have a new confidence. Within their eyes beam the confidence of "I can learn English and I can pass my classes."
The headphones were the most favored item by the students. At first, they pretended to be newscasters and highlight imaginary sport events! After I explained the usage of this device with the online program, the students were able to independently navigate the program and complete audio recordings of themselves repeating words or phrases in English.
Students enrolled within the state math classes has used the calculators with fidelity. They normally check in to borrow the calculators for their math class. Once their math class has ended for the day, they bring the device back to me. I have seen improvement within their math grades based on the usage of these calculators.
At first, the students were reluctant to use the dictionary. They cried out, "Mister, we use Google Translate." However, I explained to the students that Google is not always accurate and they should have a reliable primary source. Using the dictionaries helped the students to see cognates between English and Spanish as well as other equivalent words between the two languages. My lowest level of students was able to read an entire passage on their own within a few weeks because of our work within the dictionaries. They may not be the students' favorite item but it is mine!
I thank you once again because it is really wonderful to see these resources being used by the students. As the school year progresses, I will receive more students with a limited background in English. A few of these newcomers will be able to afford the materials needed for their classes and majority will not. However, I know I am able to give them a fighting chance with the tools donated into my classroom. Thank you for sharing your heart out to us in Raleigh, NC.”

Funded Nov 27, 2018What can I say but thank you for this amazing gift! Through your generous donation I was able to transform the love of literacy for my English Language Leaners. My students has grown quite a bit since the implementation of these whiteboard tables in our classroom. My students are more willing to write challenging words and sentences during our literacy lessons, take charge of correcting their grammatical mistakes and compete other content work.
When they first saw the tables, they were completely apprehensive about them. Some students smirk at the concept I was introducing. Some students were disengaged about the whole thing altogether. However, as simple as this may sound, the color markers helped all my students to become engaged. I did not think writing in different colors would help my students desire to work on these tables but low and behold it did! I was completely shocked that color markers would still capture the interest of teenagers!
Now that I spent this semester learning about the implementation of these tables and how effective they are in my curriculum, I will find more ways to incorporate them in my lessons. Normally, I used the whiteboard tables twice a week but I am going now to increase the duration next school year. Now that I have a useful strategy to teach literacy, I am going to maximize it as much as possible!
Overall, I cannot say anything but thank you again. My students and I are definitely grateful for this resource! Inadvertently, I was able to influence regular English teachers to consider about purchasing and using whiteboard tables within their own classrooms! Who knew this project would be such a hit? You all are truly a blessing and we have been blessed to be supported by such wonderful donors!”
