Kindergarten is often the first opportunity a child has to practice vital social, emotional, problem-solving, and study skills that will be used throughout their life. The development of self-esteem is one of the important goals of kindergarten. The process of learning to read fosters self-esteem more than any other activity. The thrill is electrifying to the children. The school that I work at is a small rural school with less that 500 students from PreK-12th grade. We are in a very impoverished area with few resources at our disposal. We have very little technology and we have very few readers at our disposal. With the economy being down right now it is making matters worse. Any increase in resources of any type would greatly enhance the students educational experience.
