  • Counseling Done the Write Way!

    Funded Feb 4, 2020

Thank you Livia & Biz Stone for fully funding this project! They are being used daily in my counseling sessions with my students. Having these writing and drawing materials available for my students has been awesome! They are able to express themselves through writing and drawing when speaking aloud is a challenge for them. My students often come to me in duress; they are sad or angry. The children love using the brand new pencils, markers and crayons as they calm themselves down. My students take great pride in their work. Having these new tools will make their work more fun and colorful; ready to be displayed.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Marbury

  • iPads for at Risk Students

    Funded Aug 5, 2019

Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to have IPads to access the internet. Having this resource available has Ben a game changer for our sessions. The children are spending more time discussing ideas and asking questions so they can research answers online. Hearing one of my most aggressive students say, "I'm not even going to argue with you; we can just Google it" was awesome!

Besides playing educational games and reading, we have also tried some calming techniques with apps like calm.com. They children are able to self monitor their behavior and emotions. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

  • Wiggles Welcomed Here!

    Funded May 13, 2019

The children were so happy to see the new chairs. Right away my fifth grade group wanted to redecorate the room. They took turns trying the chairs out and telling each other how they need to take care of the new furniture, I didn't have to say a word! They are old enough to understand how lucky they are to have donors like you give them nice things. They decided to put the beanbags together in a corner where they can sit quietly and relax. The regular chairs were swapped out for the new wobble stools. Thank you for sharing and caring.”

  • Bringing Financial Literacy to the Table

    Funded May 13, 2019

Thank you for your generous donations! The students were so happy to say good-bye to our old table. This table is big enough for me to meet with my groups. It's nice to have them altogether around the table so we can see every face as we speak to each other. The students gave the room a mini-makeover. The table was the last touch. They added it to new wobble stools; these new items have my room looking wonderful! I'm happy that the children are able to walk into a room with new, brightly colored furniture. They are enjoying it and taking very good care of it also. Thanks again.”

  • It Really Is All Fun and Games (Sometimes)

    Funded Mar 31, 2019

Thank you for the toys and games. This organization is such a blessing. The children are enjoying playing and having fun together. Their favorite thing to play with is the Legos. Children who usually argue and fuss with each other are sharing and building amazing structures and cars! They are getting the chance to show their creative side.

I had the pleasure of watching one student who is usually very shy, teach a younger student how to play Uno. He took such pride in being able to teach a friend something that he was an expert in. My students struggle with behavior and schoolwork; being able to witness the change in this kid's posture and attitude was priceless. You can tell that he was just as proud of himself as I was of him. These are experiences that aren't in a teacher's guide or lesson. Thank you for caring enough to donate.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Marbury

My students often come to me in crisis. This project includes classic board games and puzzles such as Boggle, Jenga, Trouble, Legos and Uno that will help the children learn how to get along with peers as they play and share. The puzzles and Legos will help them calm down and concentrate. They enjoy building and coloring which helps them because focusing and staying on task for longer periods of time. They have learning disabilities and/or ADHD which makes it very difficult to make it through the school day. Once the student calms down, we can address the issue at hand; then they are able to have a meaningful discussion and return to class. When I meet with small groups, we practice social skills as well as set academic goals. The children often run into problems because they don't know how to problem solve without violence. This project will allow them practice getting along with puzzles and games. They will learn to communicate with words, practice sharing, taking turns and have fun all the while.
