  • Helping Students Be Their Best

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thank you so much for your contribution to this project, it has helped me as a teacher, to create so many more resources for my students to use during the school day and at home. Having a printer in the classroom, makes it so much easier to make the material and utilize it sooner than if I had to use the school printer that is shared with many other teachers and staff.

Having a printer in the classroom also allows my students to learn and practice other skills that will help them in their everyday life and when they leave the program, including finding online resources, printing, collating and filing.

As part of my project, you have also funded construction and colored copy paper which my students use for our in-building die-cut worksite. Thank you all so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levy

  • Help Us Become Independent

    Funded Mar 19, 2015

I want to thank you all so much for your generous donations to help fund this project. As stated in my original post, I work with children with special needs in a prevocational program. I utilized the the paper shredders as a "worksite" both inside and outside of the classroom.

So many vocational skills are addressed with this worksite including communication (students must go class to class asking for paper), sorting (which papers can be recycled), fine motor skills (removing paper clips and staples, actually shredding paper and putting into garbage bags),working collaboratively and community navigation (bringing the bags to a local animal shelter).

You have enabled me to provide many new experiences for my students which will serve them immensely on their goal towards independence.

I thank you again and please keep up the good work by supporting the projects on this wonderful website!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levy

  • Help Me Stay On Task

    Funded Apr 17, 2014

I want thank you all one more time for your generosity in funding my project and supporting this amazing website and resource. Teacher's, especially those working with the special needs population, rely on other materials to educate our students- their abilities do not adhere to the expectations of a "regular" curriculum. We, as their teachers, need other means to educate them and better prepare them for what their lives will be after graduation.

Upon receiving the material from this project, my students were so excited in having different material to work with, I hope you can see it in their faces in the photos. As stated in my original post of this project, the materials will be used for independent work, allowing to develop the skill of independent time on task. For them this is a learned skill, not innate as in normally developing children and they need many opportunities to develop it.

Your donations to fund this project have given my students different ways to develop this skill. It will benefit them greatly as they will soon enter work site programs or prepare them for day habilitation programs after graduation.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you again. I thank you for what you have done for me but more for what you have done for my students. Please keep up the good work and always keep these students in mind.

    Have a wonderful summer!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levy

  • Let's Get Ready to Learn

    Funded Jan 1, 2013

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all again for helping to fund this project. I have posted several photos already and have received feedback from some of you. If you haven't already, please take a look- they're wonderful to see. These are photos of students who, most times, can not sit in a chair for more than 5 minutes. Because of this program, they can maintain focus to follow though on an activity lasting almost 20 minutes. I am able to take that focus through at least another lesson with them attending appropriately.

This is a great program and the yoga mats you helped fund makes it easier as we do not have to share mats with other classes. These students need smooth transitions; not having to wait for mats or bring mats to the next class makes it seamless.

Thank you so much. Please keep up the good work!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levy

  • Spreading The Love 2

    Funded Nov 18, 2012

I wanted to take this opportunity to say "thank you" one more time for all your generous donations that made this project a reality. I want to especially thank all of you who made your donations while supporting Dash for Donors. This was a great cause and it helped our city when we needed it most.

Superstorm Sandy hit Coney Island very badly. The funding came just at the right time. We were able to make sandwiches, cookies and brownies and bring them to the food pantry so they could be given out to the people in need.

I am very proud of my students and the good work they're doing. Please see photos of our project in action.

Thank you again and I wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year! Keep up the good work.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levy

  • Independence Is The Key To Sucess

    Funded Sep 17, 2012

I want to thank you all for your generous funding of this project. The materials I requested will help my students learn task completion and develop independence. As you can see from the photos, the students are all doing these tasks independently. Some skills must first be learned with a class staff member but when the skill is mastered with minimal support, students will do them independently in a work station (see photos).

These are the steps taken to build the needed skills to enter a work site program. I thank you all for giving me the tools to help my students achieve that goal.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you again!!!”

  • Where Does Our Money Go?

    Funded May 23, 2012

I want to thank you all again for your generous donations in helping to fund my project to get an iPad, finance software and communication software into my classroom. As you can see by the photos, all my students have been enjoying the benefits of having these.

I am looking forward to the next school year as I will be able to fully implement all the iPad has to offer when I am able to create whole lessons based on using it. I know these lessons will enable my students to "speak" for themselves.

Thank you all again and PLEASE ke”

  • Help Me, Help Others!

    Funded Apr 27, 2012

I want to thank you all for your generous funding of this project. The photos posted were all taken with the camera received from your donations. Photographs are a very important component to my students education as they learn best by seeing examples and using language to describe what is happening in the photos. You have given me a great tool to aid in their education.

The photos are all part of this years project of helping others- from preparing sandwiches to taking the train to the food pantry and ultimately giving those sandwiches to the people who need them.

You should be as proud of yourselves for donating to this project as I am of my students for completing all the necessary tasks involved.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you again!!!”

  • Cleaning Our Neighborhood One Pound At A Time

    Funded Dec 5, 2011

I want to thank you all again for your generous contributions to my project. The scales have been a big hit as the January theme in school was "Being Healthy". We (both students and adults) kept track of our weight as we practiced healthy eating habits! We used the computer to make a spread sheet and checked our weight weekly. We have also used the computer to go on fun, educational websites. The kids loved the opportunity to use a laptop and although at first, they found it difficult to maneuver with the touch pad, they soon got the hang of it!

I am so grateful for these wonderful tools to make instruction fun!”

  • "Now You're Cooking With Fire- Or Not! 3

    Funded Dec 22, 2011

Thank you all for your generous donations in helping me fund this great project. As you can see by the photos, my students have had a great time using all the materials and appliances we were granted. As stated in an earlier fully funded project "Thank You" letter- "Now You're Cooking With Fire-2", my students have been working with another class in making donations for a local food pantry. We started with sandwiches and from the appliances funded by you, we have added cupcakes and banana bread to our donations. Please look into Ms. O's "Spreading the Love" project # 711229.This is a great cause.

    Thanks again-”

I work with a beautiful group of high needs, special education students. The facility is a High School/ Occupational Training Center in New York City. These young adults are in either the 8th or 9th grade (14-15 years old). Their disabilities include Intellectually Challenged, Autism and Multiple Disabilities. They face more challenges in one day than most people face in a lifetime, yet their optimism and perseverance never fail to amaze me and make me smile. Each one is so different in their abilities and personalities. Although they are limited, each is so bright in their own way. When they are successful in the classroom, they beam with pride. As their teacher, this keeps me always wanting to do more, engaging them with any prop or tactic to push them to think further.
