  • Help Take Math into the 21st Century!

    Funded Jul 29, 2011

I hope this letter finds you doing well and you enjoyed your summer! I received the ElMO document camera on Monday and started using it with my class the same day! For the first 5 minutes, all of the students were astonished, amazed, and captivated by the new technology. Once the novelty wore off, the students continued to be captivated. :-)

Having a document camera in the classroom will make my teaching better and the students will be able to learn and explore math in a completely new way. With this document camera, I am now able to quickly project a student's homework onto the board and the work can be shared and analyzed by the class. I no longer have to first make an overhead transparency or scan the homework.

Yesterday, I wanted to show the class a bunch of manipulatives that help students understand the concept of decimals. A student sitting in the back of a classroom with 34 students would only be able to see the manipulative if it was passed around the classroom. With the document camera however, I simply projected the items onto the board. It is amazing how efficient and effective the ELMO is.

Teaching math to 68 sixth graders (34 per room) is a difficult and demanding job every day, but knowing that there are generous supporters like you make this job so much easier. Your support will truly help improve my students' math skills and enable them to learn unlike ever before.

    Thanks again for you generosity!

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Nieder

  • Scissors and Glue Will Make Math Fun!

    Funded Jun 16, 2011

I hope this letter finds you doing well and you enjoyed your summer! I received the requested materials yesterday, and the students started using them today! Having a class set of scissors and plenty of glue sticks (they will last all year) make doing in-class projects so much easier. Students no longer need to share scissors with their partner and finding usable glue is no longer a classroom scavenger hunt. :-) One of my goals for this year is to make math class more interactive and have the students create projects that demonstrate their knowledge for certain skills. Although a class set of scissors and glue sticks sound simple, they absolutely make my goal feasible and practical. I love Donors Choose and am so grateful for donors like you. Teaching is hard every minute of every day, but knowing that there are generous supporters like you make this job so much easier. Thanks again for you generosity! ”

  • Make Math Meaningful, Memorable and Unique!

    Funded Apr 1, 2011

cartridgesThe school year is almost over and summer school starts shortly after. Because of your generous donations, my students have had use of a color printer for the last couple of months and they love it! On any given day, the students receive worksheets in color, they create their own color math word problems and get rewarded with colorful math certificates that they've never seen before! The excitement and surprise on the students' faces when they see a colored worksheet or certificate is priceless. Students are so used to black and white pages, that even a little color motivates a lot! Thanks again for such a wonderful gift. Although they won't last forever, the color cartridges are going strong and will continue to be used for the new 6th grades during summer school in a couple of weeks.”

  • Help Make Math Permanent!

    Funded Feb 25, 2011

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The laminator has already been used by my students and they love it! So far, each student has laminated their own notecard which lists common customary and metric system conversions. These laminated notecards will stay in great condition and be used and referred to for the remainder of the year. In addition, I have laminated outstanding student work and hung them on the bulletin board outside the classroom.

Once again, thanks for your generosity and consideration. My students this year and in the years to come will greatly benefit from your donation.”

  • Technology in the Math Classroom!

    Funded Dec 29, 2010

Thank you so much for your amazing generosity! My class received its new color printer and the students love it! Seeing a worksheet in color instead of black and white may seem like a small change, but it actually makes a big difference in the students' motivation. In addition, my students have been very excited to create their own color worksheets and color 'math manuals'. The bulletin board outside the classroom is proudly displaying some of the work that has already been created. Once again, thank you for your generous donation. My students this year and for many future years will reap the benefits of the printer.”

  • Help Make Math Interactive and Fun!

    Funded Dec 10, 2010

Thank you very much for your generous donation to my math classroom! The students love their new dry-erase boards, markers and books. Everyday the students complete math problems on their boards instead of on paper. They love being able to quickly erase mistakes and practice their skills in a new and exciting way! The real-life math books are also very well liked in the class. All of the books have been added to the math library and students are able to read them when they have completed their work.”

  • A Math Teacher Needs the Right Tools!

    Funded Dec 30, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my students' classroom! Their heavy-duty pencil sharpener has literally revolutionized the class. Students are now able to sharpen all of their pencils without the machine overheating, they are always prepared for class, and all students are ready to get to work quickly. Math class is so much more efficient and there are many less management problems to deal with (students no longer need to leave their seat to sharpen their pencil). Thanks again for your donation!”

They work extremely hard every day and the results show; 100% of my students passed the 2011 NYS Math Test! Teaching is never easy, but having the right supplies makes learning fun and allows my students to achieve their goals.
