Digital Media Arts with LCPTV
Funded May 7, 2019We all know that Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world and with the support of your genorsity, our LCP-TV crew is learning to use some of the same recording equipment, editing software, and stage moves that national news anchors and journalists use!
Our students were eager to get the green screens set up and ready to use as they hosted a photoshoot for the news crew, sports teams, student clubs, and graduation ceremonies, helping expand the reach of the project you so graciously gave to.
The students pictured were especially excited to unbox the equipment and spent the morning practicing to set up and break down the scaffolds in less than 5 minutes, which helped make their transitions to and from class especially efficient as other classes move in and our of their shared space. From all of us at LCP-TV, thank you!”

This classroom project was brought to life by LIFEWTR® and 2 other donors.Three-Corner Flash Cards: Add Subtract Multiply & Divide
Funded Dec 5, 2015Thank you so very much for your contribution to our classroom! Within days you all came to our aid and helped secure enough donations to get adding/subtracting and multiplication/division flash cards into my students hands. With these flash cards we have been able to build student fluency and rote memorization and basic adding/subtracting and multiplication/division facts, making it easier for students to solve more complex math problems. Thank you!
When I told students that our project had been funded in less than a week and that the flash cards were on their way, they were ecstatic. They could not wait for the chance to get to use them and quiz each other in friendly games of multiplication war and fact families.
As students continue using these flash cards to build basic math fluency, they are also continually building the stamina they need to solve multi-step math problems. Being able to solve basic arithmetic problems reserves brain power for more critical thinking skills and lets them put their focus into the bigger picture of the problem, i.e. finding the why behind the what and how.
I cannot say thank you enough for helping bringing these resources to our classroom, along with the joy of opening a gift from the community outside our classroom. Thank you!”

Mr. Mendez
Calculators for Fractions and Multi-Digit Operations!
Funded Oct 26, 2015I didn't think that my students could be more excited about my math class until I told them we received enough donations to get our calculators funded in less than two days. Two days later the calculators arrived and my students were eager to do their independent work just to get the chance to check their answers using the calculators. For many of my students, they have never seen anything beyond a normal calculator that gives answers in just decimal form. With these new calculators, they are deepening their understanding of decimals, remainders, fractions, and partial products.
Perhaps one of the most exciting things about these new calculators is that my students feel a sense of pride in calling them their own. They grow excited when a fellow teacher or parents comes into our class and they get to show them the difference between using the division button versus the division with a remainder button. And you should see their faces when their paper matches the answer on the calculator. They love being right (who doesn't), but they also love celebrating each others right answers.
It is with the utmost respect and gratitude that we say thank you. Thank you for your donation. Thank you for giving us a chance to explore numbers in a different way. And thank you for helping us build the path to college for our students and their families.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Mendez
