  • Read and Poppit!

    Funded Nov 25, 2021

Thank you for funding our "Read and Poppit" project. My students loved the bi lingual classic stories and the poppit to sound out words!!

We are a low income school and so many of our students do without "fun" stuff at home. These story classics are fun and promotes our 2 Way dual language school. Parents were grateful they had books to read to their children in Spanish and Engish.

The poppits are used to "sound out words" phonetically. It gives the students a tactile way to learn to read.

Thanks again for your generous contributions.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DiLonardo

  • Let's Be Safe and Stay in School!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you for funding our project that helps keep our students safe. Our school is a very large elementary school with below poverty level population. Masks are expensive when you have to have a clean one every day. Your donation insured that our kindergarteners can have that necessity.

Bandaids are also a hot commodity in kindergarten. The bandages you funded are used every day for scrapes and small cuts. This also insures a safe "germ free" environment so we can keep those mean germs away!

Once again, thank you for your kind donation to this project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DiLonardo

  • Let's Keep It Forever!

    Funded Sep 28, 2021

The laminating film purchased for "Let's Keep it Forever" has been a success in maintaining curriculum games, special work projects and memory pictures to take home!

Our biggest goal is for students to achieve their reading goals. This is supported through centers which include phonics and writing. When we can laminate these center activities, it can be used many times and shared with other classes.

Student pride is another way we used our lamination. Using Project Based Learning, students were able to "capture" their farm project by laminating. They were then able to take it home for safe keeping!

Thank you for funding this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DiLonardo

  • Light Up Back 2 School!

    Funded Sep 17, 2021

The lightboard and lightboard manipulatives have been a big hit in my kindergarten classroom! The class and I tracked the shipment of this project and were thrilled upon arrival! We use the lightboard in small groups due to Covid and to make sure each and every student gets a chance! The new still hasn't worn off --- the students absolutely love creating words, math problems and structures on the lightboard!

One of the projects I had "waiting" students complete was designing a picture of what they could use with the shape manipulatives. When it came their turn, they tried to duplicate it on the lightboard! This is a huge task in kindergarten and they completed it with mastery! I am one proud teacher!

Thank you once again for making my classroom fun with learning enrichment! Donor's Choose is the best!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DiLonardo

  • Let's Go Shopping!

    Funded Oct 14, 2019

My students used this project in our summer school program last summer! We did a Project Based Learning unit of study on careers. Many of my students wanted to work in a bakery, be a farmer, or work in the food industry. The items I obtained from Donors Choose were put to good use!

The students were thrilled to have the items they needed to work on their career choice. I had many "tasty" meals presented to me and also received a check for the food! It was a blast watching these "little adults" perform, and model after parents, their "job"!

My current project funded is a light box that the students will be able to use for math and reading. After experincing one at the Jasmine Moran's Children's Museum, I knew I had to have one for my class.

Thank you again for funding my project. Our classroom is awesome because of Donor's Choose!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DiLonardo

  • Bilingual Centers are the Best!

    Funded Jan 15, 2021

My class went 2 Way last year, which meant I have a great mix of Spanish speaking and English speaking students in my classroom. The resources funded for this project helped bridge the gap between the students by allowing them to "work together" and learn from each other. It was very heartwarming to watch this unfold!

The students loved the materials and were very careful about taking care of them as they knew they wanted to continue to play and use them. The materials were a good choice for this class!

My current classroom project is a light box for the students to use during math and reading center time. Patterns and word building are two major goals for our littles to achieve. Since all of my students receive Science and Social Studies in Spanish only, this project will aid greatly in those areas as well!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DiLonardo

  • HOLA! Let's Learn With Our Friends!

    Funded Aug 12, 2020

We began a 2 Way school last year. It was tough during the pandemic but we did it! Half of my class will go to Spanish reading and the other half goes to my English reading class. All my students will have Spanish in Social Studies and Science.

When we prepared for center time with my mixed group we had the materials for both languages to learn from each other. The Spanish/English cell phones were a big hit in the living center and the word games expanded our game center! Books were included in the library center! I watched in awe as the merging of two cultures became friends and taught each other a new language through play!

My current project funded is a light box for my classroom. The students will be able to build words for reading and patterns for math in a fun, hands on way! They are very excited!! Thanks to your kind donations we have an awesome classroom!”

  • Plastic Can Be Good!

    Funded Nov 22, 2019

The laminating film has allowed us to save paper by providing activities that students can re-use during center time! It has helped our struggling students practice writing their names. Following directions folders were made to help with students who need extra practice and focus. One of our students needed a communication notebook to convey his needs during the day.

Such a small request on something so simple has made our classroom run smoother and has help save the earth by using less paper! A lesson in itself!

Thank you so much for providing your dollars to fund this project. It will be used for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DiLonardo

  • Come Over to My House!

    Funded Sep 7, 2019

Our living area is complete! Because of your generous donations my students are happy little people! They are modeling life experiences and learning new ones too!

Center time is such a much needed time in the kindergarten curriculum. Students learn by doing and the "hands on" experiences you have helped us create aid in that experience.

We are so grateful for your donations and help. Donors Choose is a teacher's blessing. It helps us to help our students listen, participate and become learners!!!

    Thanks again for your donation.”

  • Let's Play by the Sand and the Sea!

    Funded May 25, 2019

The water/sand table has enabled my students to search, through a hands on tactile experience, for alphabet letters and numbers. Putting them in order is the next step after they have dug through the rice, sand and oats! Looking for buried treasure is always fun!

Center time experiences are a major part of the kindergarten curriculum. The students are able to choose what is "their" best way to learn. Many of our students do not have the means or opportunities to "explore" except at school. Creating such experiences are fun and meaningful!

We are so grateful for our donors choose participants. Many years ago, before

Donors Choose, teachers could not supply all the needs of the students. Today we are so very fortunate to have this opportunity to express our needs for our students through Donors Choose.”

Engaging students in the writing process can be arduous. I am creating a "wild about writing" classroom using animals that students love to learn about. A classroom rug depicting animals around the world would enhance a positive learning and comfortable environment. Many of my students come from poverty stricken homes. Providing an inviting "student interest owned" classroom can enable student curiosity and desire to learn!
