• Make Students Wonder About World History

  Thank you so much for your support! Midyear I found myself taking over a history class that was not yet my own. I quickly learned alongside my students what was ahead of us...

  My new course ended with two summative assessments - the AP World History exam in May and the Global Regents exam in June. This required us to prepare for 3 types of essays, 2 types of short answer questions, and 2 sets of multiple choice questions. The bigger goal that helped us navigate this challenge was a genuine desire to learn the content and acquire historical thinking skills.

  This project gave my students upgraded books to read and learn about world history. The visuals and the timelines enhanced their chronological reasoning and geographical awareness of the events we studied. The books brought the world to my classroom. 100% of my students passed the NYS exam needed to graduate and more than 60% passed the AP exam. Thank you for contributing to our endeavor!”

  I cannot thank you enough for your contributions to this project. It's not an understatement to say that this project has changed lives and transformed teachers. This Room 227 makeover generated a buzz throughout our building that forced us all to rethink and reimagine the physical learning environment.

  The pictures capture just a sliver of the before and after experience of our students. The whiteboard tables are a game-changer for working out complicated math problems. The softer lighting creates a more relaxed atmosphere. The variety of so many comfortable seating options is refreshing and new. Needless to say, the students of Room 227 love the flexibility and vibe of their now unforgettable classroom.

  I am inspired by Mr. P, the math teacher with this vision, and I am so thankful to work with him this year. You have helped make his dream come true. Thank you! We cannot wait to apply what we have learned through this project to future classrooms. We have already launched Round 2 for our self-contained classroom Room 222.”

• Return to Learn in Safe, Sanitized Spaces - Round 2

  Funded Sep 17, 2020

  When we returned to school this fall, we did not know what to expect. With your support, we successfully created safe, sanitized spaces for our students and staff with TWO fully funded projects. Our new 6th graders were most excited to be in person and in school with their classmates and teachers.

  We installed air purifiers and air diffusers in all shared locations. We equipped all classrooms with extra masks, face shields, cleaning supplies, and sneeze guards. We equipped all students with their own personalized supplies, including, hand sanitizer, earbuds, pens, pencils, and more.

  Schools in New York City remained open until November 19th and we were fortunate enough to remain Covid-free for the duration. Our students and teachers followed all health and safety protocols. Your donations helped ensure consistent cleaning, social distancing, and hand sanitizing. We are beyond grateful for the peace of mind you provided.

  We do not know when schools will reopen again but we do know that we will be prepared. Thank you for giving us a stronger sense of safety and stability!”
