  • Bring Learning to Life: Help Us Get a Color Printer

    Funded Oct 13, 2024

I hope this letter finds you well. On behalf of all my students especially my ESL (English as a Second Language) grades 3-5 student at PS 506, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your generous donation toward the purchase of the laser jet color printer. This incredible gift has made a significant difference in our classroom, and I am thrilled to share with you the impact it has had on our students' learning.

In today's classrooms, technology is much more than just a tool—it's a bridge. For many of our ESL students, the language barrier can be overwhelming, especially in content areas like science, where complex vocabulary and concepts are introduced. The color printer has allowed us to print translated copies of our science readers, making lessons more accessible and engaging for these students. By providing translated materials, we're not only helping them understand the content more effectively, but also fostering their confidence in their ability to succeed academically. In this way, technology is not just supporting learning—it's empowering students to become active participants in their education.

The most exciting part of this new technology is the ability to produce vibrant, easy-to-read materials that captivate my students' attention. For many of our ESL learners, reading comprehension can be a struggle, and the ability to print in color has made a world of difference. Key concepts are highlighted, important vocabulary words stand out in bold, and visuals accompany text in a way that enhances understanding. The printer has helped bring our science content to life, turning what could have been a daunting experience into an exciting one.

Particularly, there are students who have absolutely flourished with the addition of this technology. One of my students, Ana, who initially struggled with both the language and the scientific content, has shown remarkable improvement. The color-coded sections in the translated readers have made it easier for her to identify and connect new information, and she's expressed how much more confident she feels in class. Another student, Carlos, has become more engaged during our science lessons because he can now read and follow along with translated materials that are visually stimulating and well-organized. This personalized approach has allowed them to not only understand the lesson better but also take pride in their progress.

The printer has made an impact not just in terms of the academic growth of individual students but in fostering a sense of community in the classroom. My ESL students now feel that their needs are understood and met, which has strengthened their connection to both the subject matter and to each other. With their confidence boosted, they're participating more in discussions and contributing valuable insights during group activities.

None of this would have been possible without your thoughtful contribution. The laser jet color printer is a powerful tool that continues to make a significant difference in my students' educational experience. I cannot thank you enough for your support, and I want you to know that your donation is truly transforming the way these students learn.

Once again, thank you for your generosity. We are incredibly fortunate to have you as a partner in our educational journey.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. FRISONE

  • Bridging S.T.E.A.M. Concepts with Real-World Applications Through Enrichment Kits

    Funded Nov 30, 2023

On behalf of my students and myself, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for your generous donation of STEM enrichment kits to our grades 3-5 science classes. Your support has had an immediate and powerful impact on our young learners, sparking their curiosity and deepening their understanding of the world around them.

These hands-on kits have transformed our classroom into an exciting space where students can engage in interactive and meaningful learning. The opportunity to explore STEM concepts in such a tangible way has not only enhanced their understanding of science and technology but has also boosted their confidence in problem-solving and critical thinking.

The joy on the students' faces as they conduct experiments, build models, and investigate scientific principles is truly inspiring. Your generosity has made it possible for these young minds to experience the excitement of discovery and has fostered a love of learning that will stay with them for years to come.

Thank you again for your thoughtful contribution. Your support means the world to us and is helping to shape the future of our students, empowering them with the tools they need to succeed.”

  • S.T.E.A.M. Lab

    Funded Feb 21, 2023

Myself and my students greatly appreciate your generous donations. Your donations have helped my students have tables that promote collaborative discussions, easier use of materials, and a stable surface to create their designs and projects.

The first day they saw the tables set up, they were so excited and asked if we could do a S.T.E.A,M, challenge instead of our regular lesson. While working at the tables, I heard students saying, "Isn't this great our materials aren't falling through the table", "I'm so happy we don't have to sit on the floor anymore to do our builds". This is means so much to me and them.

The tables came just in time for our district S.T.E.A.M. expo. The students had designed new highway lights that would emit less light into a rainforest. They designed three rainforest sections and tested their prototypes. Without these tables I do not believe their project would have looked and functioned as well as it did because they hated sitting on the floor when they had to work with small materials.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

  • Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead

    Funded Aug 22, 2020

Thank you for your thoughtful and generous donation. At the time of this project we were still working in person. Unfortunately, I am working as a fully remote teacher and some materials I am not able to utilize virtually. Once we return to live instruction the students will be able to create solutions to real world problems using the magnetic tiles, rock and fossil kits. These tools will allow them to design, test, and analyze their solutions. Young children benefit from having concreate experiences and that is what these supplies will give them.

Having my classroom in my tiny Brooklyn apartment is challenging, especially because my apartment is dark. The ring makes a huge difference in how my students can see me, my charts, and my dry erase board. Now during read alouds, like "What will Danny Do? , the students are able to see the illustrations clearly and that helps them make better connections to the text. During the first week of school, I read the students "What Can I Be? " and several students discussed how they wanted to be engineers and scientists. As the weeks progressed and we began doing some of the STEM activities in the lesson book, I had students proclaim "I Love Science! I'm going to be a scientist!" That excited me more than ever because learning on the computer for a 5 year old is extremely challenging and it's hard to keep them engaged. These tools have helped me do just that, create lessons that are engaging and inspiring to the children.

Myself and my students thank you for helping us learn.”

  • Learning Remotely in Kindergarten

    Funded Sep 18, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation. During these unprecedented times, your donations allowed me to purchase the materials my fully remote kindergarten students needed, to learn from home. My students were so excited when they received personalized bags with a magnetic dry erase board, markers, notebooks, pencils, play dough and a tablet stylus to help them with their virtual learning. Each day after our morning meeting we begin math by using our dry erase boards. The students use their boards to solve their problems of the day. Because the boards are large, we are able to see each others responses and that leads to discussions on how they solved the problem. WE also use our magnetic boards for our phonics lessons along with the play dough. Many students were having difficulty forming letters and using play dough to make letters helps them get their minds ready for writing.

Before the students received the materials, they were not doing work because they didn't have the supplies like notebooks and pencils to do work on. Once they received their tools, all the students began and continue to complete all assignments.

The biggest impact I think the supplies made, was on the students motional needs. They all felt so special receiving their bags of supplies. I can't thank you enough for making my students feel special.”

  • Virtual S.T.E.a.M. Detectives

    Funded May 17, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations. I have been assigned a fully remote Kindergarten class this year. I am so grateful to have a dry erase board to use and model our learning. At first I tried using slides with the students but they were less engaged. Using the easel they seemed more connected to the lesson. We have made many wonderful charts together using the chart paper and markers, and I use the easel every day for our ABC lessons. I love that the board is magnetic because I can place the alphabet cards directly onto the easel.

Many of my students are English language learners, so I color code each subject. I use the sentence strips are subject guides to write the teaching points on. So even if the students don't know all the words on the sentence strip, they do know for example if it's pink, we're doing reading. I have also sent home dry erase markers for each student so that they can do small group work with a dry erase board. This is wonderful to have to practice sounding out and writing words and for math instruction.

I have not yet used the robotic programming book, because it is too early in the year. I am hopeful I could try something out around March. I know once we are back in school full time, my students will love these additional lessons in our Robotic program. I will be using the weather kit later in the year, as well as the planting kit. We do both topics from March to June. I will post pictures as soon as we use the materials. Thank you again for your support!”

  • Investigating the Micro-Organism Environment

    Funded Apr 11, 2019

Thank you so much for funding our projects. Today was the first day that the grades 3-5 students were able to use our new microscope. They were so amazed at all the living organisms that live in a tiny drop of water. They asked if we could conduct similar water tests on our drinking water at school and at home. They were hypothesizing if all water has small living organisms living in it or were the organisms from the bay water the only types of water that would have living things in it. They were asking questions like, "Would we be able to see germs on water fountains, pencils, and desks if we used the microscope?" Because of this one small encounter with the microscope they now have decided to carry small science journals around to write down questions they want to investigate and use the microscope as their tool to find the answers.”

  • Future Leaders

    Funded Mar 10, 2016

    Dear donors,

The new tables have been set up this week in my classroom. There are 30 students in my class this year and they were so excited to have new beautiful tables. I have 22 students that speak languages other than English and they are so funny with the tables. If they make a little mark you hear "oh no!" They rush to the sink to get a baby wipe and clean the smudge. The students feel special because they are the only class in the school that have new furniture. I know that our group work will be much more productive because the students won't need to worry about a leg coming lose. I am grateful to all my donors.”

  • Learning Through Technology

    Funded Mar 1, 2012

The students have been using our new document for every subject. Students who were hesitant in the past to read are raising their hands continually now. They love sharing their published books with each other. In the past when a student was unsure of a word they would just give up and stop reading. Now the students are helping one and other to succeed. Because of your generous donation the students are improving their reading strategies and skills in all subject areas. We are also using the document camera in math. The students enjoy coming up to show and explain their answers and it is sparking great discussions. In just a week I see a difference in their learning and look forward to seeing them blossom with confidence and ability. Thank you again for help my students to achieve all they can! ”

I am an elementary Science/ STEAM teacher for grades K,1,2, and 5. Most of my students are bilingual and / or special needs. They are all hard working children who wish to succeed. Our school is in a low income community and receives title 1 funding. Our school budget is small and doesn't allot for extras like science materials and equipment. I believe students learn best through exploration and creating. All of my units are created around real world problems for the students to solve by using the engineering design process. It is very rewarding to see these young minds light up when they realize, "I got it!"
