  • Tech-Savvy Kinders

    Funded Sep 15, 2016

Thank you for your generosity! Just as we use technology to grow our skills, so do our students. Some of the most crucial skills children develop in kindergarten are degrees of literacy, whether it is through reading, writing, numeracy, or navigating technology.

Their favorite part of the day is center time, which is when they use the iPad, in addition to other materials and games to practice a variety of social and academic skills. Since receiving the iPad, students have enjoyed the opportunity to share with their peers as they play fun and inviting games that teaches them the basics in reading, writing, and math. Specifically, they are practicing reading sight words, letter name and sound identification, and understanding numbers and their representation.

Given that technology is increasingly used in the classroom across the country, it is truly beneficial that our students have access to the additional iPad. Thank you.”

  • Keep Our Noses in Great Books

    Funded Sep 13, 2016

Sometimes it is hard to explain the impact donors like you have on my students. I will share a story of one particular student who has benefited from your contribution.

Although I teach third grade, for a variety of reasons, some students do not meet their reading level goal and come in at the first or second grade reading levels. This student despised reading--he had little confidence and would avoid the reading specialist. When the donated books arrived, he noticed the Captain Underpants titles and his face lit up. Little did I know, he loves graphic novels! Since then he has been working towards reading the series and has grown as a reader. He now enjoys taking turns reading pages from the Captain Underpants series with a partner that supports him while reading.

I honestly do not believe that there are people in life who do not enjoy reading, they simply must find something they enjoy. Thanks to you, this student has.”

  • Fired Up in First!

    Funded Jul 15, 2016

    Hello!

Thank you for supporting my classroom! Although since posting this project I have switched to the third grade, my students still use the exact supplies I previously requested. Upon receiving the items, my students were incredibly grateful. They knew that generous donors likes yourselves contributed to their learning environment.

How do they use the supplies? On a regular day, they begin their day by taking out their pencils to complete morning work--a brief task or assignment that is tailored to their learning needs apart from the curriculum. Later in the day, they are using crayons to underline important details that support their reading comprehension from the text of the day. If students are indoors for recess due to the weather, a calming activity they love is the use of play doh. Some times they have the liberty to create something of their choice or we use it to demonstrate a concept from math.

Very easily, my students may utilize each item donated daily. They look forward to using the dry erase markers to help them master their multiplication skills by practicing quick facts on their wipe-off boards. Thank you for your generosity and for investing in my students.”

  • Read With Me!

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

I wish I could provide audio for you to hear our students as they read using their guided reading books.

Not only do they sound adorable, but you would hear their joy, fluency, and their developing confidence. I usually have a group of 4-5 students at a times come sit and read with me at a kidney bean shaped table. We open with different games that are will aide them as they read. The books range in levels so each lesson varies, but they are all practicing foundational skills like using picture clues and finding words they already know in order to read.

Guided reading is our favorite time of day and would not be as engaging or as easy as it is without your contributions. Thank you for providing these resources and opportunities to our students.”

    Ms. Ryan

  • Free To Play

    Funded Apr 18, 2016

    Dear Donors,

"Is it recess time?" This time, when I am asked if it is recess yet, I can answer while listing the number of activities they can choose from after they have eaten their lunch. Imagine the sound of their excitement when I pulled out the colorful parachute from the bag. "Woah, what's that? How do we play?" You could hear a chorus of kindergarteners singing, 'ooh and aah' in awe and wonder at the new materials.

Now that they have received these supplies, students are more eager to play outdoors and share with their peers. In the coming school year, I look forward to partnering with my colleagues to foster a safe and cooperative play space.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ryan

  • I Can See Clearly Now!

    Funded Nov 17, 2015

We would like to thank you for your contribution that subsequently afforded our classroom speakers and a document camera.

As soon as I received the package, I installed the new speakers and later the document camera. Immediately our students noticed the difference the speakers made. We use them daily to listen to songs that are used to teach high frequency words and counting and phonics skills. Previously, the clunky speakers we used were not fully functioning making it hard to hear the music they love! Now they look forward to coming along and out-singing the music playing. In addition to the use of the speakers, my students were overwhelmed by the document camera. Throughout the day they are excited and protective of the camera as they look at the board to see what is being presented, whether it is math problems, phonics instruction, or sharing students writing pieces.

Thank you once more for impacting our students lives by contributing to this project. They are no longer fussing about being unable to see what I or their peers are presenting to them. They are also pleased to be able to hear their favorite songs throughout the day without a problem.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ryan

  • Centered on Centers!

    Funded Oct 20, 2015

I am so incredibly thankful for your generosity and investment in our students. It is encouraging to know that there are others in this world who value these children and their futures.

Thanks to your donations, our students look forward to small group time. In fact, during the writing block just yesterday, our writing prompt was about something they like about class and many raised their hands to share that they enjoy center time (small group work time). I enjoy overhearing them counting as they play the math games or spelling out their names and high frequency words using the letter beads and magnetic letters on boards that are actually magnetic. Because your donations supplied so many different games, I am still in the process of introducing them as the topics come up. Next week they'll be learning how to use the listening center so please stay tuned as I post pictures of their progress!

I look forward to hearing them laugh (hopefully not too loudly) as they engage in new material through these games and comfy reading seats. Thank you for committing to their academic success and on the same token for encouraging me as I work with them on these foundational skills.”

  • 'Write' On, Kindergarten!

    Funded Dec 24, 2014

We are thrilled to have had our project funded. Thanks to your generosity and dedication to our students, we have materials that keep them organized and engaged.

They adore the chair pockets in which they store materials like their writing journal, math journal, and their homework folder. They even try to sneak storing the new scissors in them as well. They are a funny group and words cannot express their appreciation. While they develop their organizational skills, they are also developing literacy skills with the use of the magnetic letters. Use of the magnetic letters is a go-to center where they can build vocabulary words, high frequency words and practice letter recognition.

We are truly grateful for your investment.”

  • Kindergarten Kickoff!

    Funded Dec 24, 2014

Everyday I am incredibly thankful for the supplies that you have provided to our students. The list of supplies was quite extensive, much of which are basic necessities that we use daily, like pencils, crayons, blank paper, glue, scissors, supply caddies, and their writing journals. They have been able to learn a variety of skills and it has further advanced their studies. They were excited when the items arrived and are still grateful for having them at their disposal.

Our school has limited supplies and funding, therefore making your donations critical to their learning. I do not know how I would be teaching or how our students would practice the skills without these vital supplies. Thank you again for your generosity and investing in the future of our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ryan

Hello and welcome to my Donors Choose page. Our students are vibrant, curious, hilarious and eager to learn. They are excited to explore new material and support one another through the process. However due to budget cuts within the district, our students need your support. Though they come from an urban and economically disadvantaged neighborhood, that does not make them any less deserving of a quality education. All of our students, despite their socioeconomic status, require and deserve access to learning materials. Not only will your donation provide supplies, it will promote their learning experience and greatly impact their future. Thank you.
