  • Human Centered Design With Arduino Coding

    Funded Feb 5, 2020

Thank you so much for helping to provide my students with the resources they need to code soil sensors using Arduino technology. They are looking forward to being able to work on their projects as soon as we are able to go back to school.

The COVID-19 school closures have put a halt on all planning and project progress but we are impatiently waiting for the day we can go back to our robotics room and being building again. We will take next year's competition by storm and make you proud to be a donor for Northeast High School.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stratton

  • Color Coded Learning

    Funded Feb 10, 2020

Thank you so much for your kind donation. By providing these supplies for my students to use you have increased the overall workflow and productivity in my classroom. Now I have enough supplies that all students are able to work on projects at the same time without waiting for things like scissors to become available. This will allow my students to improve their understanding of science in new ways.

I am excited to use our new dry erase white boards in class to provide students a space to practice their skills while also decreasing the classroom's environmental impact by having to make excess numbers of copies. I can now function with a class set that lasts me all day or by forgoing copies completely and projecting work for students to complete.

Your kindness and generosity is always appreciated and I cannot thank you enough.”

  • Hydro-Pumps for Hydroponics

    Funded Jan 30, 2019

Thank you so much for your continued support of my students. Today we are going to begin building out hydroponic gardens and I cannot wait to share this process with our school community. My students were so excited to find out that this project was funded and that the materials arrived at school so quickly. With this project I hope that my students learn the value of building something completely from the ground up and develop problem solving skills along the way. This is unlike any project that SPARC has undertaken in my time here and I am hopeful that it will be one for the books!”

  • High Quality Foods Grown in Hydroponic Gardens

    Funded Nov 24, 2018

Thank you so much for your continued support of our students and STEM Education. It can be difficult to fund large projects in the public school setting but you are making it possible for my students to expand their knowledge of STEM topics while also developing critical problem solving skills that will prepare them for life beyond high school.

My students were thrilled to receive these materials and we are looking forward to building our hydroponic gardens when we return from winter recess. They are extremely enthusiastic about this project and cannot wait to begin impacting the school community by providing healthy food alternatives to the staff and students.

Moving forward the materials from this project will be used to build and maintain 3 hydroponic gardens which the students will be responsible for maintaining as the year progresses. The crop yield will be used to supply vegetables to our Viking Cafe, a student run cafe program.

I cannot express my thanks enough for your generosity and continued support.

Update: My students and I would like to express our sincerest gratitude to all donors. As a result of your support we were able to build a prototype garden for the National Engineering Design Competition in Tucson Arizona this June. My students placed 3rd in one category and 4th place overall. This enabled my students to take part in a once in a lifetime experience that we will all remember forever. Thank you for making this opportunity possible. They did their school, their families, you, our gracious donors and most importantly, themselves proud.”

  • Physics Goes Further With Legos

    Funded May 31, 2018

Thank you so much for your continued generosity toward my students. My student's eyes lit up when they saw the huge box of Lego Pieces arrive. They could not wait to see how we were going to use them in class. These Lego Pieces made for a fun and exciting, hands on science experiment that my students could not get enough of. They were able to visualize concepts of speed, acceleration and force and from those visual aids, trouble shoot to design better and faster balloon powered cars. By turning my classroom into a temporary playground my students were able to explore science in a way that made them feel confident and comfortable.”

  • Virtual Reality Creates the Modern Day Magic School Bus

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your dedication to helping my students advance their knowledge through the use of technology. My students did not believe me when I told them that these supplies were coming. The look of excitement on their faces when the cart arrived was truly indescribable. We plan to use these virtual reality simulations as a way of transporting our classroom to impossible places. This week we traveled to the surface of the moon and examined the birth of a star. Next week we are going to examine the solar system and if time allows, take a look into the Saturn V rocket ship. The possibilities are endless thanks your generosity.”

  • Calculating Our Success in Science Class

    Funded Feb 4, 2018

Thank you so much for your dedication to helping the next generation of students find success. These calculators will make our next unit on physics go much more smoothly and these resources will be available to many students for years to come. It truly warms my heart every time a project is funded because it reminds me that there are still people who support education and truly want to see children succeed. Having the appropriate supplies is the first step in any educational endeavor and now we are able to put our best foot forward.”

  • Healing Ourselves with HeLa Cells

    Funded Dec 15, 2017

First, let me express my sincerest gratitude for your kind donation to my students. I am so excited to finally get these books for my classroom.

Though the class I initially intended to read these books with has been dissolved, I have worked diligently to create a curriculum with my colleagues that will allow these books to reach even more students than I originally intended. Both the Science and English department are very excited about this collaboration and about creating a cross curricular bond between our two subject areas. It is our hope that students will really see the impact of this book and be moved by it in the same way that we all are.

These books will allow students to examine a true test of biological ethics and the impacts the choices of medical professionals and scientists can have on individuals, communities, and the population at large. In the classroom students will read, analyze, and discuss the events documented in this book and use it as a resource for building their own ethics debate.

I cannot wait to see the work they create!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stratton

  • Meeting Learning Needs by Removing Social Struggles

    Funded Sep 7, 2017

I cannot express enough thanks to you for your generous donations to this project. The 9th Grade Academy is so humbled by your generosity to our students and for giving us the opportunity to provide these resources to our students. We plan to make these supplies available to all students in need throughout the school year and we would not be able to do so without you. High school is a difficult time without worrying about social struggles. You have provided a safe space for students to come when they are in need.

We had the joy of receiving your donations on the 3rd day of school. In all of the excitement with the new year beginning, students were in awe when the boxes began arriving. With such a large project the shipments came in a total of 8 large boxes that they couldn't wait to get their hands on. Many were eager to use the products right away but were understanding when I asked them to refrain so I could take inventory. I am sure they will continue to enjoy the supplies all year long.

With current events in the world and so many people being impacted by the hurricanes in the south, we hope to use your generosity as a model for a lesson in helping those in need. Community service is a graduation requirement at Northeast and it is our goal for the 9th Grade Academy to use this project to help kickstart our students ideas on ways that we too can pay it forward and help those in need. We are already planning to make bracelets to sell in a way to raise funds for our sister classroom in Houston. You have made an immense impact on Northeast High School and we thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stratton

  • Our World Through Scientific Exploration

    Funded Sep 28, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous contribution of Science World Magazine to my classroom. The department at Northeast High School has been able to implement these issues several times in our classrooms to help enhance our lessons and create a holistic and authentic learning environment for our students. The environmental science teachers have really enjoyed having it as a resource.

Since I have 9th Grade students I have been working on supplementing my lessons with the articles that touch on pop culture. The Pokemon Go issue was a huge hit. Students seem to forget that all of the technology they use each day is the result of a scientific process. Fortunately for all of us educators, there are no Pokemon spawn locations in our school building! Though the students did try to find one.

We are excited to continue using Science World Magazine in our classrooms and cannot thank you enough for your generous contribution.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stratton
