When students do not have basic school supplies it can be difficult for them to focus on the math material. Students often come to my room without basic supplies such as pencils, pens, and paper. Without the support from home it can be difficult to hold them accountable for these materials. If I could provide them with these items and teach them responsibility for them I would waste less valuable class time. So much of my day is focused on the basic materials, instead of focusing on teaching the math curriculum.
