Sensory Support For Sensory Needs To Succeed!
Funded Sep 6, 2019In my classroom, I have 12 mostly nonverbal students. Their ages are 3 and 4 years old. My 3 year olds are newly diagnosed with Autism and developmental delay. This being said, my students did not have a reaction to the materials nor do they even understand what has been donated to assist in enriching their learning at school. But my teacher aids and I know what a gift you have given them. The materials have given them the needed sensory input. The materials have given us the needed tools to help the students with their sensory needs. Thank you for the gift you have given us!”

This classroom project was brought to life by PNC Grow Up Great® and 2 other donors.Protecting Technology for the Present and Future!
Funded Dec 30, 2017Thank you for graciously donating cases for the donated iPads!
A friend of mine that I have known for many, many years contacted me saying he wanted to donate two older iPads that he wasn't using anymore. When I told my class that we were getting 2 more iPads and protective cases for them they were excited! My students with disabilities are all on different levels in reading and math, and, they have individual skills that they need to master. I have 10 kids in one of my classes, so that means I can use all 5 of the iPads to individualize the students' needed skills with apps while I focus on the other 5 students that need to work on the same skill. The students gain confidence with using the iPads because they are focusing on a particular skill and they aren't concerned that they are on a lower level then other classmates. In addition, the apps show me what skills they have accomplished and skills they need more instruction in. Data plays a large part in teaching these days, and the apps make it easier to do just that.”

iPads for 5th Grader Special Needs Class.
Funded Aug 3, 2017Technology is a part of our everyday lives. Majority of my students only have access to technology at school. They are learning how to navigate computers but on a limited amount of time. At home, they do not have access to computers nor do they have adults that know much about technology. In order to advance through life successfully we have to be knowledgeable in navigating technology. Students with disabilities already have many challenges that deplete their ability to advance through life. What better way to decrease their life challenges by adding successful technology skills to their repertoires?
With the iPads that have been donated to my class, I am able to not only increase their math and reading skills, I am able to increase their knowledge of a highly useful technology platform and increase their typing and communication skills. Over the years my students have lost their self confidence and motivation to learn. With using the iPads they are encouraged and motivated. It gives them a break from lectures and monotonous worksheets and they are able to practice the targeted skills that I have set up for them to work on.
I am grateful for the opportunity to teach my students with the assistance of the iPads. I have seen their confidence increase as well as their skills and test scores. I am able to work with a few students at a time while the others are working on the iPads. This has made my classroom more manageable and my teaching students with disabilities more specialized. I love seeing their excitement when they get a high score on an app or master a skill that they have struggled with in the past. My students thank you and I thank you. This would not be possible without generous donors like you!”
