Chart It Up!
Funded Oct 28, 2020Thank you so much for your generosity to provide our class with much needed materials. Chart paper and markers are resources that the students and I use on a daily basis in our classroom. Not only are they used for me to create daily informational charts that are hung around the classroom, but students also use these materials to create their own work to display.
Recently, students learned all about weather and were excited to find out they had new markers to create their weather research posters with. They each got their own set which is extremely important with social distancing guidelines. The antibacterial wipes also came in handy when preparing work space where the students set up to complete their assignment.
In addition, students were exceptionally excited to each get their own dry erase makers and eraser. Each day students use these materials to answer questions in all subject areas as a way to be assessed and explain their thinking.
We will continue to use all these materials and we jump into book clubs for our next reading unit. The students will continue to use the dry erase materials each day during in person or remote when sharing their knowledge on the lessons for that day.
Chart paper and markers will be used as students jump into their book clubs for reading! They will be able to display literary elements from the books they have read.”

Funded Jan 1, 2021One of the top priorities educators have during this unprecedented time, is the safety and welfare of our students. Our classroom is located in a school building that was built over 65 years ago and we have a general ventilation system. This air purifier and filters will add extra safety to our in-person learning. There are so many things that will be filtered while the purifier is in use.
Currently we keep several windows open which can get quite chilly during the colder winter months. This air purifier will allow us to filter the air without keeping all windows open.”

Fantastic Fiction!
Funded Jan 3, 2020The books have arrived to much excitement in the classroom! The children could not wait to get their hands on the new books. They were very excited as most of them have heard of some of the titles through movies, but did not realize that the same author wrote all of these stories!
These books have already made quite an impact in the classroom, as the genuine interest of my students have been piqued. My students love fiction and I knew they would enthusiastically embrace our book club study. Working in book clubs permits the students to read the same text and then deeply discuss and engage in higher order thinking. It truly allows them to gain ownership of their learning. Not only will my class this year benefit from these books, but many future classes will as well.
While students were placed into specific book clubs, many of them have already asked if they can read another title when they are done!
Thank you again for your incredible generosity to support avid readers!”

Pop-up Answers: Using Dry Erase Boards in the Classroom!
Funded Nov 22, 2019Thank you so very much for funding this project! I am so excited, and I know my students are as well. Your generosity is so very much appreciated. The students in my class were excited to get new materials as they love using dry erase boards and markers!
These resources will make a big difference in my classroom. We will be using these white boards and markers on a daily basis in order to assess students' learning. During our math lessons students are able to answer their "Quick Check" questions using these boards! Having these materials will allow my students to have the opportunity to also plan their thinking, as well as being used as a support when working in partnerships! Not only will these boards and markers help this year's students, but my students for years to come.
Self and peer assessment are important means of monitoring students' progress You have helped put my students on this path. Again, thank you for your support!”

Mrs. De Leo
