Our Decision Day event celebrates our students who've made the choice to go to college. It's very motivational for the rest of the school to see them make a college-going decision. Seniors wear color-coordinated shirts based on the school they are attending and they also sign a mock letter of intent in front of a Decision Day banner, making the experience feel like that of NCAA signing day for athletes. Each student will be given a gift bag at this event with relevant college supplies. The supplies are useful, especially because we're in such a low-income area. The binders will be set up with all necessary resources and will help students stay organized. Our students need school supplies! Funding that students receive, generally go toward the direct college costs like tuition, room, board and books. These items fill a need for the students who are graduating and heading off to college and will help them stay in college once there. One of the biggest issues with our poverty-stricken students going to college is persistence. They get to college and cannot get the supplies or the help that they need to stay in college. We want them to have some of those issues already resolved so that they will be more likely to remain in college and finish their degree.
