  • Steal Like an Artist: Tapping into Creativity

    Thank you so much for your continued support and for your contribution. When I first requested this project to be funded, I thought my request would be used in my journalism class, but after really getting to explore the books, I have decided to use these books in all my classes.

    Kleon, the author, inspires students and adults alike to clear the clutter in our minds and to get in touch with our creativity. He teaches students to be inspired by the people around you and even the spaces around you.

    It was really nice to have my kids say, "this book is actually pretty good." I even had a few say they read it in one sitting even though I was assigning the chapters one at a time.”

  • Get Lit Rising! Books to Inspire Writing

    Funded Sep 10, 2017

    Thank you for your support in my project. The Get Lit Rising books have provided an opportunity for my Creative Writing class to have conversations every Monday about topics that relate directly to my students. While the first week they had some difficulties talking about their connections, over the past few weeks they have found it easier to relate even if they haven't had the same struggles.

    The students have also been able to see a variety of writing styles. This lets the students develop their own voice as writers and gain confidence in their own style.

    In a class that has no set curriculum, I've really enjoyed knowing that every Monday the kids know what we are going to do. Also, their culminating projects at the end of the semester has been designed around the very chapters we read each week in the book: narrative, classic poem, and an original poem.

    I appreciate each of you for making this project a reality.”
