Basic Supplies for College and Career Prep!
Funded Feb 25, 2016Thank you so much for your generous support of our students. Already, students are using the supplies in classes like science, math, language arts, and social studies. Even just having the basics, like new pencils and rulers, gives a little pep as we begin to round out our school year. This is especially important for our students to finish on a positive note.
When we come back from spring break, students will continue to have access to supplies for upcoming projects and daily assignments. Having new supplies is not something our students are used to, and your support is essential for their success.”

Provide Playground Equipment to Improve Health & Wellness!
Funded Dec 3, 2015Thank you so much for your generous support of my students! I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed providing new playground equipment to students and watching them get active everyday. In addition to the fact that kids are now having more fun and engaging in healthy physical activity during recess, I've watched students form new friendships over games like four square, soccer, and basketball.
When I brought out the new equipment on the first day, students were stunned - and instead of the normal scuffle to get one old basketball, this time they were excited to try a new piece of equipment. A group of boys who had been waiting all year for a red four square ball immediately put the new one into play, laughing the whole time.
As I look across the playground at lunch now, I see groups playing soccer, football, basketball, and foursquare. Inside, they play more games like volleyball and basketball. This is due to your generosity and willingness to provide essential equipment to the neediest of students. Thank you for being a supporter of education inside and outside of the classroom.”

Exercise Balls to Increase Student Engagement and Movement!
Funded Oct 20, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donation to purchase our new exercise ball chairs! Everyday you can see just how much students love their chairs, and how much movement they release by being able to move around on them. Each student has been able to personalize their own chair and other teachers frequently come by to ask about how effective the chairs are. In fact, even a couple members of the school board came by to see the chairs and ask about how more classrooms might get their own.
I'm proud of how well students have taken care of their chairs in the first couple months, and I see an improvement in their afternoon attention spans (a time when kids often start to tune out). Your donation has made a positive impact on the way students learn and the pride they share in our classroom space.”

Understanding Engineering Through Legos!
Funded Dec 14, 2012Thank you for donating LEGOS to my classroom! We have had so much FUN learning and it feels like we are only getting started. Not only have we integrated LEGOS into our math and science units, many students also decided to make 3-D models of settings of stories from books they had read.
In addition to classroom lessons, I was also able to teach an after school enrichment class through our SUN School program. We used the LEGOS for challenges, such as building the tallest free standing structure.
Without your support, we would not have access to such fun and useful materials.”

Science and Math Books To Motivate My Students!
Funded Dec 30, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation for math and science books! We designated an entire new bookshelf to our new books, and students have been able to access them everyday during activities like silent reading. The books have also been a wonderful research tool for students completing projects in Science, or as a resource for homework help in Math.
We also had a day where we read silently ALL DAY and the Math/Science bookshelf was very popular. The variety of new books has encouraged my students to read more deeply about topics they have questions about, and simply look at some amazing pictures about nature, ecology, animals, and the human body.
Thank you for giving to kids who really need and appreciate these materials!”

Interactive Geography For Students New to America
Funded Oct 10, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation to make this project possible. Sadly, when we started the unit a majority of my students weren't able to identify all 50 states (let alone the capitols, other countries, or geographical landmarks), but by the end of the unit the student aced a state name and capitols quiz.
They also collaborated to make a huge world map and then shared where everyone was born. My class has students born in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Somalia, Yemen, France, Mexico, India, Haiti, and several areas of the United States. It was so fun to share their memories and international experiences.
Thank you for helping making geography relevant and fun!”

Math + Science = Success! But We Need Basic Supplies First..
Funded Oct 10, 2012Thank you for your generous support to my students! At parent teacher conferences this fall, I asked every single student what their favorite subject was; all but two students said Math. I couldn't believe it! I also gave them an anonymous survey asking them what they enjoyed doing in class, and what could be better; a majority of students said that all of the Math and Science supplies made learning fun.
I see new confidence in my students because they know that new calculators, dice, and rulers are available any time they need them. They are able to play math games to extend their learning. Personally, math and science were not my favorite subjects when I was growing up, but your support has made those two subjects the most fun to teach!”

Creative Class Projects to Combat Bullying!
Funded May 9, 2012Thank you so much for these amazing supplies! Our school continues to struggle with bullying even though the year has barely started, but we have been able to have some meaningful conversations about how to combat bullying, and how my students can be leaders in our school. They have made posters and fun videos, and have already spent time working with younger grades on how to be assertive, stand up for others, and be role models. I can see our class is extremely empowered by these opportunities. Thank you so much and we will continue to do good work!”

Exercise Balls to Increase Student Engagement and Movement!
Funded Oct 10, 2012Thank you so much for donating to this project - it has been so successful! When our new exercise balls arrived, I gave students a measurable criteria to "earn" their new chair and their motivation in class skyrocketed. Now that all students have their exercise balls, not only do they appear more engaged during lessons, but they feel special. When other students and teachers walk by the classroom, they poke their heads in and ask what the chairs are for.
Although I haven't conducted my own research (since the chairs are a new experience to us), I can say that I definitely see students unconsciously getting their wiggles out after lunch while focusing on their school work. I also see that they take more pride in our classroom and are excited to get to their seat first thing in the morning.
Thank you so much for this opportunity! It's made such an impact on what we do!”

Graphic Novels For Excitement About Reading, Writing And Art!
Funded Jul 12, 2012Thank you so much for giving our school year a great start! Instantly, my students hands were on these novels and they have already written and posted reviews of their favorite books in the classroom. Everyday we have 30 minutes for silent reading and these graphic novels really generate interest for students who are not always excited to read, or struggle with reading skills. Having new and special books also means that students take better care of the books and share their reading experiences with friends. Your support has reached a group of students who would normally never have this kind of opportunity.”
