  • Hungry for Math the Pre-K Way!

    Funded Aug 25, 2014

I can't fully express my appreciation and thanks for your donation to my project. It is great to see that you share my excitement in teaching students math skills with fun and exciting materials! The materials that you have helped fund will enable my students to develop many cognitive math skills. The "Turn and Learn Gears" have allowed them to experiment with shape movement. The "Rainbow Design Blocks", "Peg-A-Picture", magnetic shapes, and light table shapes have provided my students with many open-ended learning opportunities with properties and how shapes can fit together. The learning opportunities with these materials are endless! These materials will definitely help my students build a deeper mathematical understanding and a good attitude towards math! Again, thank you so much for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Duffy

  • Nutrition In Pre-K ~ The Right Way!

    Funded Apr 24, 2014

The boys and girls in my classroom were so incredibly excited to receive all of the wonderful materials to learn about healthy living that they couldn't hardly wait to start 'cooking' healthy food and learning more about the jobs in our community that help keep us safe and healthy! They immediately tried on the costumes and helped set up the market stand to learn about fresh produce.

My students have been developing skills in healthy living and caring for their bodies in the dramatic play center while using the market stand, career costumes, and career puppets. By empowering my students to act out scenes in healthy living through doctor visits, grocery shopping, and cooking healthy foods with these materials, I am helping them to develop habits that will lead to a healthy life style.

Providing my students with quality literature about healthy living, they have good visuals during story time and dramatic play. In addition, the career figures for the block center, provides my students with much language opportunity while they build structures needed for each career choice. My students have thoroughly enjoyed sorting, naming and playing guessing games with the vocabulary photo library of healthy foods! The boys and girls in my class are so fortunate to have the opportunity to not only develop vocabulary, but with these materials provided, they have the opportunity to develop a lifetime of wellness!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Duffy

  • Imaginations Soar Through Play & Healthy Eating!

    Funded Mar 25, 2014

Thank you so very much for providing the wonderful materials to help my students develop their imaginations and choose healthy foods! They were so excited when we opened up the boxes together they cheered! They couldn't wait to put on their first puppet show! A small group of students even invited some neighboring students to be the audience. Another group of students organized a 'market' to 'sell' the colored produce to their friends. Of course, the shoppers visited the Daily Menu and cost of items first and wrote down their shopping list before shopping for the life-like colored produce. The boys and girls applied their knowledge of 'eating' the shape cupcakes after they 'ate' their healthy produce. The materials enabled my students to develop these important skills in a natural atmosphere and with friends!”

    Mrs. Duffy

  • Apples, Bananas, and Healthy Eating! Pre-K Kids Can!

    Funded Mar 10, 2014

I can't fully express my gratitude for your generous gifts! My students have been able to learn the names and many colors of healthy foods through your generous gift! They have been choosing good snacks and meal choices by using the lifelike foods, puzzles, and books that are available to them now. We have also been able to sing songs about healthy food and exercise with our new CD and book about healthy foods! Empowering my young students with the knowledge and exposing them with the different food groups has given them first hand experiences on making their bodies strong and healthy. I am encouraging my students to share this knowledge with their families. Together, we are making a lasting impression on good health and good eating habits with these impressionable students!

By giving my students exposure to good nutrition and encouraging them to make better food choices to grow up 'strong and healthy' has empowered them for a lifetime of wellness!

Again, thank you so much for supporting my classroom endeavor in supplying my students with the necessary materials to give them the opportunity to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Duffy

  • Writing 'Round the Alphabet

    Funded Apr 9, 2011

I can't fully express my gratitude, excitement and thanks for your donations to fund the Leap Frog Scribble and Write tools. As you know, the children in my classes have been screened and found to be at-risk in at least one area of their development. Motor development is very poor with many of my students. The Scribble and Write tools have been the most popular learning center all week! The students are so excited to practice writing! The Scribble and Write tools 'talk' to the students to explain where to begin and show them with a light path where to put the writing pencil to accurately write the shape/letter. The students become very excited when they complete the task because not only do they hear "good job" but they see "fireworks" for their effort. This approach to writing is by far the students' favorite.

Our school wide goal is to graduate our littlest learners to be successful. Writing is one of the "3 R's". Writing and reading go hand in hand, and my students will be very prepared in writing thanks to our new writing tools.

Again, thank you so much for supporting the writing effort for my students with the Scribble and Write writing tools! They absolutely LOVE them!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Duffy

The students in our pre-K class are three, four and five year olds that have been screened and found "at risk" for development in either cognitive, language or motor areas. Fine motor control, writing letters, takes a lot of practice. We provide the students with many different kinds of writing tools: dry erase boards, chalk, tracing sand paper letters, and traditional tools. However, when certain students need much more practice with writing development, it takes many different approaches to keep their interest.
