Keeping us Safe by Hearing Clearly
Funded Nov 27, 2021Thank you for the expression of care shown with your donation. It makes our lives so much easier and benefits the children. Your donation has allowed a better way to provide and maintain supplies cleaner during these health-conscious times.
As speech related service providers we often find ourselves sharing space with colleagues and it can become quite noisy. Plexiglas shields we used were an added barrier to keep us healthier, but also made it harder for the children to hear the therapist and vice versa. The sound amplifiers allowed the children to hear me much clearer. In fact, placing the amplifier in the plexiglass not only amplified my voice to the children but it decreased the volume that would otherwise reach my colleagues. My throat also liked the fact it didn't have to speak as loud.”

Funded Mar 18, 2021WHOA! Thank you sooooo very much. You have made it possible for each of the students and colleagues that service the students feel appreciated. During this time it has been so important to keep things clean and safe for everyone. This allows us peace of mind. YOU made it happen. Your giving has brought peace of mind, a sigh of relief and materials that have made teaching cleaner and safer during this once-in-a-lifetime academic year. We hope and pray it is only for this year. However, your giving will be extended towards another year since these materials should last until next year and start us off with something to check off the to-do list right away. May you also enjoy peace of mind, a sigh of relief and the resources for a much better year.”

Hearing Loud and Clean!
Funded Dec 1, 2020The walls of the classrooms are no longer a barrier as technology enables new ways of learning, communicating, and working collaboratively. Technology has also begun to change the roles of teachers and learners. With recent events propelling our schools forward to expand our untapped technology, we find ourselves needing yet more technology to further enhance what we have. This was the case when my students were using iPads daily for their educational needs and weekly for therapeutic sessions. Many of the activities used in tele therapy sessions require the appropriate material and equipment in order to distinguish sounds, maintain attention, understand sequencing, and comprehend questions posed.
Distraction has always been a challenge for all educators and during this tele-therapy world we find ourselves having to find new ways to address it. There is no doubt that the noise cancellation headphones have made a positive impact in how the students learn during in person speech and language therapy sessions. As soon as the students see the noise cancelling head phones it captures their attention. Wearing something on their ears as they follow along with what the dynamic presentations they see in the tablet truly decreases visual and auditory distractions and in turn increases the time they focus on the lesson presented. Because it decreases the sound around them, peers can also listen to interactive and engaging videos on their own time with no interference. This helps to make lessons be more customized with just the addition of noise cancellation headphones.
The children love to put them on. They look forward to using their tablets and engage in the interactive activities. I love it because they're right on task and are much more focused.”

Funded Oct 23, 2018Your help has allowed the students to access language opportunities and input that can, many times, not be humanly possible without it. The technology has allowed me to download several applications the children can use for auditory bombardment, phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, sequencing, narrating events, recalling details and so much more. Due to some ordering procedures, donors choose explained the order needed to be re-processed differently allowing the opportunity to obtain other needed materials. Among the materials ordered were an iPad mini, laminator, laminating sheets, slime kits, lava lamp kits, kinetic sand, large headphones, mini hearing screener, mini projector, ipevo pen (allows whiteboard to become a smart board) and other games to promote language enhancing opportunities. Many of these items help to enhance visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic input. These have helped the children to understand how to describe hard to explain terms such as fizzy, slurp, slick, foamy, oily, sandy, grainy, moldable, hiss, among others. We've been able to make experiments such as lava lamps and different types of slimes to address expansion of vocabulary, descriptions, predictions, sequencing, recalling of events and retells. The children have made their own narrating slide shows which are emailed to the parents. This has increased and enhanced parental communication. Thank you for your help in enhancing their speech and language sessions.”
