I have been teaching for 17 years and the majority of the time I have spent in K-2 classrooms. During this time I have been researching various ways to support literacy, yet have never found programming that was accessible to all learners including special education students and English second/new language learners, so I created my own! Through performing arts and reader's theater, my 425 students will build their reading fluency and thus, their overall reading skills, while building their ability to communicate, collaborate, and build their own emotional intelligence which has been severely impacted from remote learning. The best part is that my program has been designed to give equal access to every student in the room! In order to best read our scripts, we will use characters to support our youngest learners in reading, interpreting and performing their parts.
