  • Colorful Expressions

    Funded May 18, 2023

Thank you for supporting our class with your donations. In our science class we use an interactive journal and many of the work that we add to it are printed on color paper and cardstock. This helps the student organize and maintain a lot of information in their journals.

We also use the card stock and the color paper in our others journals to categorize our chapters and notes. These journals become a resources for the students to use throughout the year.

We would like to thank you again for helping us create these interactive notebooks with your donation.”

  • Engineering in the Classroom

    Funded May 9, 2023

I would like to take this opportunity and thank you once more for helping our classroom.

The students look forward to using hands-on learning to help them better understand the lessons in class.

The students were very excited when the boxes from DonorsChoose arrived. They couldn't wait to open it. They are very creative and enjoy coming up with their own creations. When they saw the Maker Kit they wanted to use it right there and then. They are also very excited about using the ramp during our friction lesson in science.

It's important for students to have resources in the classroom to enhance their learning and with your help, we are able to create those moments. Thank you once more for helping our class get to the next level of learning.”

  • Technology at Our Fingertips

    Funded Nov 18, 2022

Thank you once again for donating to our class. This year has been the first year back that we can say we are back to normal but, our normal now includes more technology. Our students are taking their final test on computers and the supplies you helped fund really helps. Our students are able to use the partitions to maintain a private place to test. As well as, the headphones and mouse provides each one of them with the tools they need to focus and be successful in their assessments. My students are very excited to be able to have their own materials in class. Thank you.”

  • Exploring the Scientific World

    Funded May 3, 2022

Once again thank you for donating to our class. In 5th grade, Science is very important and being able to discover through hands on activities is crucial. My students were amazed when they saw the science kits. The circuit kit, My Home, allowed the students to understand how the wiring of the house allows for energy to flow through and create both power and light.

The anatomy kits were great too. The students were able to manipulate the different organs and explore how they looked and what their purpose were. Finally the solar system model help them get a better visual of how the planets orbit the Sun.

As a result of using these products my students did very well in their end of the year Science test. I believe that because they were able to have hands on activities, they were able to understand the different concepts in science.”

  • Ready, Set, Smile

    Funded Jan 11, 2020

We loved the photo printer that we got from your donations. We love posting pictures in our class of all the wonderful things we have done and accomplished throughout the year. We have created a wall of fame to show off our awards and having the photo printer we are able to quickly add pictures to the wall.

During Dr. Seuss week, we read "Oh the Places You Will Go", and decided that we would like to create hot air balloons to represent the places that we hope to go in the future. The students create the balloons and wrote about their future goals. Later, we went out in the yard and took pictures to add to the hot air balloons. The students quickly learned how to download and print the pictures. They really enjoyed the experience.

Now that we are experts at taking and printing pictures, we try to add a new picture to our wall of fame each week. This has been a great addition to our classroom and the way the students can share their creations.”

  • Technology In The Classroom

    Funded Nov 6, 2019

Thank you for your generous donations. My students have benefited greatly from the materials we were able to purchase. The three chrome books that we received have come in very handy. My students able to complete computer based programs that they are required to do weekly. Having the computers in the class has also aloud for those students that complete their work quickly to be able to work on their programs. This year my students learned how to make PowerPoint in class. They were able to do research and create the videos with the use of the computers.

As part of our materials we also got colorful card stock paper. We have used the paper in many ways in class. We make tabs for our interactive journals, created cards for Veterans for Veterans day and Valentines, and we have used it for other projects this year.

Once again thank you for providing us with the opportunity to be successful in school.”

We would like to thank you for donating to out class. The materials that were purchased have been a great help in our class. One of the things we received were headphones. These headphones help my students to be able to use the laptops in class and complete their computer programs. They also are using the mouse. The students having the materials they need in class is crucial. They are able to complete their math work with the graph paper and protractors as well. The sharpener has also been vital to our class because of the students using it daily. All in all, we are very thankful for your help and know that all the materials are being put to good use.”

  • Research, Read and Relax

    Funded Oct 23, 2017

Your donations have made a great impact on my students. The moment I told them that we were funded they got very excited. The day the first package arrived, my entire class was so eager to see the new materials that we had to stop and open the boxes right away. My students love the flexible seating and the computers. We placed some of the flexible seating, the air chair, and the bean bag in the classroom library. The students enjoy sitting on them and relaxing to read. The other chairs, the benches, and the ball are used on a regular basis by different students. They are randomly selected and the students may choose which type of seating they will use for the day. As for the computers, we placed them on the back table so, that the students may use them when needed. They used them to complete their computer programs and do research when necessary. We would like to thank you for your donations and helping out our class. It is greatly appreciated.”

  • Express Yourself with Words

    Funded Oct 27, 2015

We would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful donation you have given to our class. We are learning everyday and you have provided us with these great tools to help us. My students were very excited when they found out that our project was funded and that we would be getting the materials we needed to become authors in our class. The students created books with different genres. They used the printer to print and create their books. They also learned to use the GoPro to record each other. They were able to express themselves on both paper and through video.

The most exciting product that my students used was the GoPro. They used the GoPro to record each other reading their favorite piece from their books. They were able to not only read their writing but also share it with the class. The students were introduced as authors in our class and they learn to express themselves without fear. This was truly an exciting project for them.

When it came down to who wanted to be in front of the camera, the girls definitely took the cake. They are usually quiet and shy, but as soon as we started to record them the girls went crazy. They enjoyed talking about their new book and the different types of writing they had used. The final product was spectacular. They learn to use the printer and how to bind their book. The students can't seem to get enough, everyday they are coming us with new ideas as to how we can use the GoPro and printer in the classroom. The ideas are endless. Once again thank you for helping our class and making learning so much fun.”

  • Exploring Through Science

    Funded Jan 10, 2015

Allow me first to thank you again, my students and I have truly enjoyed working with all the resources that you helped up acquired. As soon as the materials started arriving at school, you could see the excitement in their faces. The anticipation grew as we approached the day that we were to use our new science supplies. Since I work with several grade levels, news quickly spread throughout the school that the Gifted classes were working on a butterfly project. Needless to say that everyone wanted to see what we were doing. My students participated in every aspect of the butterfly project, from setting up the containers for the larva to research and presentation of the butterflies.

Everyday for a month my students kept asking when are the butterflies getting here. Since, the company sent us the live larva it had to be planned down to the time of arrival. During the time that we were waiting for their arrival, my students used the ipad to research and find out more information about the "Painted Lady" butterfly. We watched videos, drew and labeled butterflies and even created books. When the larva finally arrived we set up the class so that all the students could participate in preparing their new home. The students used their new colorful goggles and pretended to be scientist. We also had a group of students that recorded information in our science journals. My student diligently observed all the changes the larva were going through. After a few weeks, it was time for the caterpillars, which were now in the pupa stage to be moved into their butterfly net. The students were able to see the process take place right before their eyes. It was amazing finally, the last stage the butterflies started hatching. I can not explain how mesmerized my students were to see this happening. We have a butterfly garden at our school, so we decided to release the butterflies there.

I have heard many times that when you actually experience something you learn, well I can say without a doubt that that is true. I feel my students truly enjoyed learning about the cycle of the butterfly. They were able to see it happening right before their eyes. The students were engaged and actively participating in their own learning. I believe it was an experience that they will never forget and will benefit from it in the future. As a result of this project, the entire school knows about the "Painted Lady" and we've decided to do this project every year so that future students will enjoy it too.”

Our school is a wonderful little school nestled in a low economic neighborhood. Most of our students are immigrants and parents don't speak the language. Almost all of the students in our school are on free or reduce lunch, therefore parents can not provide them with the latest electronics and supplies they may need. The students in the gifted classes are very self direct and eager students. They are usually the only person in their home who speak English. They become the translators for their parents and they are usually on their own when it comes to homework. In many occasions, they themselves become teachers to their parents.
