  • Comfort with the School Counselor

    Funded Nov 9, 2018

The impact that your generous donations gave will ripple foward for many years! The puppets are something that my students run to when they come to the counseling office! Students love sitting on the the road carpet and playing with cars, figurines, and animals! All of the things donated have enriched the lives of my current students and future students. Even the most challenging students to counsel will open up when they relax with a puppet or sit on the rug and engage in play. Thank you!!

The puppet stand has given the office a more organized look and makes it easier for students to find the puppet that they would like to use. When I bring the puppets into the classroom for lessons the students light up with excitement! Any nerves I may feel when starting lessons with puppets quickly melt away because of the excitment that I see in in the young students faces.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kaloz

  • Urban Elementary Students Need to See Lessons

    Funded Jun 3, 2020

I cannot possibly express just how thankful I am to have the document camera. It has made a huge difference in presenting lessons with classrooms. My students can actually see what I am presenting!! With elementary students it is necessary for them to make connections visually and physically. Prior to the document camera arriving I was attempting to read books with students but having a lot of difficulty keeping the book that I was reading centered and clear on the computer camera. I sensed that my students were getting frustrated when they couldn't clearly see what was going on. Now they always seem to be engaged and eager to participate! Thank you!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kaloz

My main goal is to create an environment where students feel welcomed and secure, so that they may maintain a healthy balance in their academic and social/emotional life. For this to happen we need for our students to feel comfortable processing their trauma and learn self-regulation skills. At our school, our focus is on making lifelong learners and leaders that are resilient and not defined by the trauma that many have experienced. Many of my students have suffered severe trauma in their young lives and tell me that they only feel safe at school. No matter how bad things get for some of my students, they show up every day ready to try their best and to learn, they often have a smile on their face, and are kind to their teachers and friends. I want to not only support them but to celebrate their positive choices, and build their resilience. I selected puppets that my students would feel resemble them or their families. I also selected several counseling games that will be utilized in groups working on developing self regulation skills and books to read during class lessons that will help develop the whole child.
