Kindergarten sets the foundation for all future learning. This includes teaching students to take ownership of their learning. We cover a lot of initial skills in literacy and math daily. It is very important for students to be given time to explore and practice using the skills taught in whole group lessons.
By donating to this project, you will give students the chance to be engaged in independent practice activities. During whole group, we practice phonics, rhyming and sounding out words. In phonics, students are learning letters and corresponding sounds, as well as identifying missing sounds in the beginning, middle and end of a word. The Fill-In-The-Blank Phonics Stamp and Touch Read CVC Words match will allow students to independently practice this skill to become better readers. Rhyming seems to be very challenging at this age, but very necessary as they begin to learn to spell and read words that look and sound alike. What's the Rhyme? Sorting house will be an engaging way to reinforce this skill for students.
During our math time, we introduce all the basics of number sense from counting, identifying and writing numbers to comparing and analyzing numbers. The Teaching Number sense, Making Ten and Comparing Numbers activities will help reinforce the skills students need to develop before entering first grade.
At this age, it is important to have activities that are fun and engaging. The activities will improve their confidence in various skills, as well as their academic achievement in all content.
