The students within our program are students who regularly experience violence, abuse or neglect. It is my goal as a special education teacher to provide a safe environment for our students who are emotionally and behaviorally challenged to express themselves freely. Engaging students in tasks and activities in which they feel they can achieve is especially important at the high school and college levels because students have many academic, career, and social choices to make (Pajares, 2006).
