  • Building with Basics

    Funded Aug 21, 2023

Thank you for helping me fill our class cabinet with the basic supplies that give us so many learning opportunities. The word basic does not adequately describe the items or the support you gave. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My students will be so excited to see the cabinet filled.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stives

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 3 other donors.
  • Calming Choices

    Funded Jun 16, 2023

Thank you for believing in and supporting my students, classroom, and me. The swing and tent will provide sensory regulation to support social-emotional learning, communication, and calming choices. They will add two more items that already support many Donors Choose projects, including a sand/water table, trampoline, crash pad, and light tables.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stives

This classroom project was brought to life by An Anonymous Supporter and one other donor.
  • Supporting Sensory Choices

    Funded Jun 13, 2023

Thank you for supporting my students' play, communication, self-regulation needs, and social skills. What a wonderful way to start the extended school year program in July. The funding of the rocker and pea pod canoe gives the students more items to choose from in the wiggle room that meets their likes and needs.”

    With gratitude,

  • Art and Music Creations

    Funded Jan 13, 2023

This thank you is coming later than I intended. I apologize. We have used the art items in so many ways.

The students had a family activity day with their parents. They were able to paint rabbits and use the googly eyes that were purchased from Donors Choose.

We created a class painting that went with our jungle theme. Each student painted a part of the elephant to create an "Elmer" elephant, celebrating our differences.

We use used the items in creative ways. We painted a pond by using toy ducks as the paintbrush. The students enjoyed seeing they could use different tools to paint.

Thank you for your generosity. It gave us a chance to be hands-on and creative.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stives

  • Jumping Into a Good Day

    Funded May 24, 2022

Thank you for improving the wiggle room that was created for my students. The jumping crash pad and mats allow the students sensory integration throughout their school day. This has been especially helpful when students cannot go outside. The jump (crash) pads have enhanced our sensory play area by adding opportunities for imaginative play. The mats and pads have allowed children to release energy and engage in heavy work. The crash pad also gives sensory input and improves body awareness. My students love having wiggle room time built into their day several times, and the outcomes are evident.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stives

  • Sensory Spinning

    Funded Nov 13, 2022

Thank you for believing and supporting in our wiggle room/sensory regulation area. The students, staff, and school greatly appreciate your support. The spinning chairs will provide another area in their wiggle room that will allow gross motor skills development. My students are in need of play skills, gross motor movement, and sensory regulation on cold or rainy days. The spinning chairs will help all of our days stay sunny.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stives

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill Gates and 9 other donors.
  • Going Higher With Our Bodies and Mind

    Funded Jul 13, 2022

Thank you for making my project come to life for my students. The trampoline and swing will provide an outlet for movement, sensory input, imaginative play, and/or time for self. The trampoline can also positively impact the cardiovascular system and improve flexibility and motor skills development.

We look forward to sharing pictures of your impact on us in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stives

  • Building the Brain with Bikes

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

Upon the bikes being funded, the students enjoyed and engaged with using them. My students have utilized them as structured movement breaks, embedded movement breaks in lessons, and social skills groups. Each time the students use the bikes, they show the same excitement and eagerness to ride them as the first time they experienced them.

My students were so excited to see that we had bikes that could be used inside and outside the school. During winter and rainy days, the students use them inside the school to get their movement and learning groups in. During the warm days, activities, groups, and breaks are planned to enjoy the bikes outside.

I hope to extend my project and plan a project that will get stationary bikes for the students to use in the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stives

  • Social Success and Self Time

    Funded May 6, 2021

The materials that were provided by this project being funded allowed my students to learn and create with hands-on materials. Students were able to use the different art materials in social groups and in centers laid out for the classroom. The centers and activities helped students calm down, use creativity, give relaxing time for themselves, and work on social and independent skills.

My students loved the different options that all the open-ended art materials allowed them to make their own masterpieces. During art centers, students worked independently or synergized while turning ideas into actual artwork. While creating their work, one could hear the calm atmosphere while they were working.

Your generous donations have impacted the social-emotional learning and academics in the classroom. Thank you for helping supply materials that help with choice, creativity, and calmness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stives

  • Safely Storing Skills

    Funded Nov 15, 2020

Your generosity to my project brought safety, organization, and ownership to my students. The 25-bin storage shelf helped students safely put away their items that worked on hands-on tasks, independent work, program and curriculum goals, and leisure items.

The bins are easily accessible to the students, and they can put away their belongings independently. The items go in order of their schedule, which helps them with the independence of their work. They are learning the importance of putting away things to ensure they are readily available and complete for the next day.

Thank you for your support and generosity in providing an item that will support many learners right now and in the years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stives

My students are investigative and creative learners. They also love to use their Leader in Me skills while completing tasks. First they will pair with up with older peers from another classroom. Then they will select a book or nursery rhyme song they want to turn into a character (this time of the year we are transforming pumpkins into characters). One of the peers will read the book or sing the song to their peer. Students will begin with the end in mind as they target a character from their story or song they want to recreate. They will synergize and collaborate with their ideas as they create the character and use supplies. Students will then work on public speaking skills as they read/sing and show their pumpkins to other grade levels. The festivities will end with a healthy Autumn snack for all. This can be used at different times of the year with different themes.
