The students I have the pleasure of working with often come from low socioeconomic homes. We are a high poverty school with 70% free and reduced lunch, but it continues to increase each school year. The students crave opportunities, but unfortunately, are rarely seen. The absence of money and time causes a lack of exposure to different things. Our school, being a STEM school, tries to compensate with other resources. However, this is not always met. At our school, we strive to provide a nurturing family and home environment that the students may not always have when they leave the classroom.
