A Library That Reflects Us
Funded Aug 11, 2020We love our new books and were so excited to start reading them! We have been reading them during our story time and all day long. During our exploration of "Us" in which we study how we belong to our community we used our new stories to help us explore and share our cultures.
Our students were especially excited to read "Hair Love" and share about how their family does their hair at home. They also enjoyed "Mommy's Khimar" which depicts a family wearing hijabs and khimars. We have a few students in our class who wear hijabs and they loved this story and requested to hear it over and over. We are so happy to have these stories in our classroom library to help our students feel valued and connected to our curriculum. Thank you for your generous support of our classroom and students!”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 5 other donors. Our Class in Pictures!
Funded Sep 7, 2019We are full of gratitude for your donation to our classroom printer. With our new printer we were able to print visuals to help our students learn. For example we have visual representations of new vocabulary words to help our young children expand on their language development. We have also used our printer to create enhancements for our learning centers. When we set up an ice cream shop we used our printer to create order forms for children to use as they participated in the center. This helped our children develop writing and math skills.
Our children are most excited when they see themselves in pictures around our classroom. We used our printer to create a picture schedule using photos of our day. The children love pointing themselves out and talking about all the fun activities we do each day. We also created a class book about our learning centers. The children enjoy reading the book and it has helped the children to engage in conversations about our classroom and friends.
This is only the beginning of all the exciting enhancements we can make to our children's school year. We will continue to document the children's learning through pictures and display their pictures throughout our classroom. Your donation has made a difference in the lives and learning of our 3K students.”
