Our classroom is our home away from home during the school day. I want it to be a welcoming space that is comfortable for my students. During independent work, my students choose their own learning spots around the classroom, choosing spaces that work best for them. Students might sit on donut chairs at a low table, stand at the high table, or spread out on the floor with a plastic tray. This allows the opportunity for student ownership and control, motivating them to be more engaged in their work and less disruptive to other students.
With these new seating items, my students will have more available seating choices, leading to more student engagement and building confidence as they learn to make responsible decisions. The wobble stools allow students to work at tables while still providing opportunity for movement. This can be very useful for energetic little ones who find themselves always on the move. The bouncy bands fit on the front legs of student chairs. Students will enjoy bouncing their feet on the bands, allowing students to release energy, anxiety, or frustration while completing their work.
Adding these new seating options to my classroom will increase the number of choices available to my students. This will allow us to have enough options for every child to choose an alternative seat at the same time rather than having to rotate. I have seen the benefits of student ownership in the classroom. I want my students to be comfortable, motivated, and engaged every day as they learn academically, all the while becoming responsible members of our classroom community!
