The flexible seating options that I am requesting for my students are vital to student success in the classroom. Children will be able to choose where they would like to sit and how they would like to sit during independent work and station time. I believe that flexible seating will create a positive and welcoming environment and help the kids feel safe.Research shows that flexible seating helps improve grades, the students seem happier and more engaged, and students have more invigorating conversations. I feel that behavior issues and distractions are reduced in a flexible seating environment. Brain research confirms that physical activity; moving, stretching, and walking can actually enhance the learning process. I will engage my students in a different variety of postures, including walking, lying down, moving, perching, or squatting. My students need wobble chairs from Lakeshore so that they are able to complete work in a fun way , a floor cushion to relax and read, Gaiam Kids Stay-N-Play Balance Balls so that they can do work while being able to wiggle, and peanut balls to allow for different flexible seating options in our classroom. My students also need fidget toys, so that they are able to keep their hands busy and off others while I am teaching.
