  • Multicultural Picture Books Please!

    Funded Jul 14, 2020

Thank you tremendously for your generosity! This school year has been like no other and I am extremely grateful that you took the time to donate to my class's project. With the social climate constantly changing, I feel it is vital that my students have a clear perspective of the past and current events to make informed opinions and decisions on a daily basis. These books help to provide my students with background knowledge. These cause discussion. These books allow my students to see representations of themselves in print. These books help to tell stories that are often not told. Thank you again for your contribution to our library. Reading looks different than it has in the past. Through read alouds and a document camera, I am able to share these books with my class. We are currently reading "Lillian's Right to Vote" and her epic 100 year journey to cast her vote as she tells us the history of voter rights. Stories such as these bridge old and new thinking together to hopefully inform, inspire, and encourage for future changes. Many thanks!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pierresaint

  • TIME for Current Events!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Thank you so much for your kind and generous gift! Unfortunately due to the Time for Kids magazines being a subscription, the booklets will not arrive until September. Nevertheless, we are very appreciative. The skills I plan to use while utilizing our new materials are close reading, summaries, and opinion writing. These skills will strengthen their abilities to communities orally and in written form.

Reading in my classroom looks like students reading aloud proudly. They are encouraged to highlight important phrases and ask questions about what they area reading. Reading is done for joy and to gain information in my classroom.

I am sure all of my students will appreciate and enjoy reading about current events with their new Time for Kids magazines. It will be a great update from the materials they have now. Once again, thank you to everyone that contributed to this cause.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pierresaint

  • Highly in Need of Hot Dots!

    Funded Dec 15, 2012

Thank you tremendously for your generous donation of the Hot Dots pens and question cards. Due to your generosity, my reading and math students have been able to benefit from the donation's enrichment. The Hot Dots package allows my students to be more independent as they work with others, become critical thinkers, and self-assess their own answers. It's interactive and entertaining to witness the students learning.

With the lack of monetary funds coming into my school, the supplies you donated are a great asset to the classroom's learning supplies. It brings an effective use of technology into the learning environment that is student-friendly and accessible for all learners and capabilities. My class is beyond grateful for your consideration and contributions.”

  • Liven Up Our Listening Center!

    Funded Jul 23, 2012

Thank you tremendously for your donation! My students having being using the resources and have been so grateful to have them in our classroom. The iPod allows them to listen to stories that they've never heard of such as The Little Match Girl and The Real Princess as well as well known fables such as The Tortoise and the Hare and Anansi Tales. We have also been using the headphones to listen to stories aligning with their curriculum on the computer. This has been a great success thanks to your consideration.

My students seem to be enjoying themselves and are more willing to be involved in the reading process. They look forward to the listening center every week. It also has induced other skills such as critical thinking because they have to think about what they've read in order to write about it. Also, they must be more attentive while listening in order to comprehend what they've read.

Due to your donation my students have taken a greater interest in listening and reading to stories. This donation will continue to impact my students for years to come. It not only prepares them for standardized tests, but most importantly reignites their love for reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pierresaint

My students are a group of hard workers that strive to be on top. As they grow up with working parents in a high poverty area while attending a school in the heart of it, it is understandable that they may not have the motivation for learning like I would want them to. With the resources donated by you, I plan to inspire my underexposed students to the beauty of learning which will ultimately make them life-long learners.
