I teach the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade special education population at my school, and even on the hardest of days, those students bring a smile to my face due to their sheer tenacity. My students find so much joy in the simple pleasures of just being a kid. The look of excitement on their face when they've learned something new is priceless. Some of these children are faced with major adversities in their lives, and the majority of them still come to school everyday to become their best possible self. I have a very soft spot in my heart for my special needs students in particular because I know how much harder accessing the general curriculum must be for them. I am here to advocate for them and help them advocate for themselves.
