  • Words Build Worlds

    Funded Nov 4, 2020

Thank you for your generous gift to build the world of words in my classroom. I have had to make little packets of each game because the students clamour to use the games during Word Work time. What's amazing is that the phonics dominoes turned out to be a valuable resource for my students learning English. I didn't realize how much they needed that practice. It's their favorite activity because they can be successful at building words. I think the tactile nature of the game really appeals to them as well. All the materials have been a lifesaver in my room as my students work with words during our reading group time.”

  • Lift Learning Off the Page

    Funded Nov 13, 2020

Wow! These 3D pens have been amazing. The students have been so creative in their projects because they are able to build a structure in front of them using the technology. I had no idea how many uses I would find for this project. The students are currently working on an earthquake unit and they decided to use the 3D pens to construct different types of structures for experimenting with structures. We also use the pens during reading and writing time. Students report to me that the time they spend working in 3D helps them to focus. I'm so glad to have this technology and can't wait to find all the uses they have. Thank you for supporting my classroom and students. We are learning and growing thanks to you!”

  • Creative Design Robot Makers

    Funded Jan 24, 2020

My students are so engaged by this project. They talk about it constantly and shared their projects with their parents and family. They felt like they learned so much about revision and critical thinking. When the boxes came there was a gasp in my class. Now they ask every week if the project will be a part of the technology center during reading groups.

I'm thinking of another project we can do working with the same materials. Not only did this project spur critical thinking, but also writing and research. Students wanted to write stories about the robot creative coding project. Thank you for your support!”

  • Fossil Art Projects (STEAM)

    Funded Jan 30, 2020

The Fossil STEAM Art project was the best project I have completed so far. The students learned so much about fossils by having hands on activities and pairing the learning with art. We were able to integrate math and reading into the unit.

The best part was that students were able to take two projects home. They took home the trace fossil project and the whole body fossil soap. By taking the projects home, they became experts in their house and shared all about the learning from school. Studies show that the best way to learn is to teach it to someone else, and this project provided that home school connection. When we took the final test on Fossils, all students earned an A!

I would do these projects again!”

  • Reading Nook

    Funded Jan 5, 2020

Our new Reading Nook is the highlight of our room. Students are begging to read silently and use the bean bag chairs. A student asked me today if he could please read silently during math since he had all his work finished.

When the boxes came there was a huge gasp of excitement. The boxes were so big! When I opened the boxes, students could hardly contain themselves. They wanted immediately start silent reading time so they could use the bean bag chairs. Even the boxes that the chairs came in were exciting to students. They wanted to take them home and use them to create little reading nooks of their own.

Next steps for the class is that we are going to work on creating reading videos to share our favorite books. Students will video themselves from our new Reading Nook to advertise books in order to get readers in other classes as excited about reading as we are.”

  • I Like to Move It - Recycled Robots

    Funded Jul 18, 2017

Thank you so much for funding our STEM Robots project! Our students had a fantastic day of delving into the engineering piece of STEM at a really deep level. I worked to create a theme of Engineering and Failure, which fits really well with the Gifted and Talented students in my class. The students kept a list of problems that came up during the building of circuits and the programming of our robots. It was such a good experience where the students had to problem solve and when they encountered a failure. They were excited to record the problems and the possible solutions. One of the great things about this project was seeing students who have struggled in some areas, really take off and show aptitude in the engineering practices. Also, our project had one consumable piece that the students got to take home, but the rest of the materials are staying in my classroom to be used again this year. Other classes have also expressed an interest and I'm looking forward to sharing with them. Thank you for impacting my class and now all of third grade.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Croft

This exciting Recycled Robotics project will engage my students in the STEM 21st century skills that they need for the future. Robotics is a thrilling, interdisciplinary field that will challenge my students with math, computer science, and engineering. The robot and circuit kits I am requesting will actively immerse my students in a hands-on project to provide experience with engineering and the design process. This project will allow students to see the value of recycling as they repurpose a soda can into a moving machine. Finally, students will use the Smart Machines kit to program our Recycled Robots to move it! This project will increase our home to school connection as students take home the Recycled Robot to share with their families.
