  • Environment and Earth Science Discovery Learning

    Funded Apr 27, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donations for our classroom to further explore the environment outside of our classroom window. We will greatly enjoy exploding volcanoes, reading about and touching samples of rocks, soil, and minerals. We will enjoy running our own plant lab and growing our own Tickle Me Plant specimens.

My students were very excited to see the boxes arrive and eagerly awaited the unveiling of the contents. Although we will not completely utilize the contents of the boxes until next spring when we do our Earth Science Unit, we were able to talk about what we will do withe each of the materials as we use them in both whole and small group activities.

I expect students to be completely engaged in the study of our environment as they are able to use these hands-on materials. The students are especially eager to explode the volcano!

Generosity from donors like you expand the learning within classrooms across the nation. Investing in future of America's children does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. C.

  • Creating Mathematical Thinkers

    Funded Jun 17, 2015

Thank you so much for purchasing the much appreciated materials to aide in my desire to become better at teaching math to my early learners.

Mathematical thinking and number sense is crucial to academic success, and I am excited to read the professional books to glean from the knowledge of "experts" in the field. I am hoping to be able to print, and store materials so that I can use my new knowledge and concepts to improve the learning of my students, and increase the effectiveness of my teaching, by bringing these proven methods into my classroom.”

  • STEM Opportunities For Kindergartners

    Funded Apr 8, 2015

Thank you so much for your kind donation for STEM materials to be used in my classroom. As we used the first project, "How To Keep a House Dry," my students were thoroughly delighted! Learning through trial and error using the properties of cause and effect turned out to be very useful in conquering the task of keeping a dry house. Perhaps my favorite part was the reaction of my parent volunteer. He absolutely loved the project, and looking at future activity boxes piled on my shelf stated that he couldn't wait to come next week to do another project.

I am so grateful for those who are willing to invest in the future of our nation. These STEM activities will certain do their part to make cooperative, creative, innovative thinkers ready to conquer what lies ahead!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. C.

  • Water Painting Supplies for Budding Artists

    Funded Mar 26, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous contributions to help my budding artists with much needed art supplies! Art is the most popular center in my classroom. Although there is the fun factor that is associated with creating art, the academic benefits are numerous! Art encourages higher level problem solving skills along with visual acuity; art simply makes the brain smart! Art is simply beneficial for everyone's brain, young and old. Thank you for caring about art in the schools and holding tight to the benefits art brings to a child's development.”

    With gratitude,

  • Chromebooks for STEM

    Funded Dec 29, 2014

Thank you so much for the generous donation of chromebooks for my kindergarten classroom. These books are not only impacting the learning of my students, but they are also being used with Title 1 intervention, the BEACON Afterschool Tutoring program and the District Mentoring Program. Students are able to now receive the Waterford Math and Science instruction the suggested number of minutes for full impact. I have truly seen students math scores impacted by this program. The Chromebooks have been a life-savor. Thank you for your generosity.

  • Play-Doh For Kindergartners

    Funded Sep 10, 2014

Everyone loves Play Dough, and my kindergartners are no exception. Play Dough brings another dimension to learning, as students are able to kinetically practice early learn skills. We have been not only playing with the delightful dough, but we are also using it to learn letters, numbers, and practice Sight Words! Also, we have enough dough to share with all of the kindergarten classrooms in our block. Consequently, your contribution is now making impact, times five!

Thank you for your contribution to the education of the young children in my community.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. C.

  • Chromebooks for Kinders

    Funded Aug 24, 2014

The Chromebooks for Kinders has already made a difference in my classroom! During my math block, I am now able to have 1/3 of my class working on the Waterford Math Program, 1/3 doing independent practice, and 1/3 receiving teacher instruction. Bringing down the teacher/student ratio as well as having the ability to use the proven Waterford Math Program will certainly impact my students experience with math and science. I have already noticed increased excitement when I mention the "math" word! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. C.

A large portion of my students are from single parent homes and over three quarters of the school's population are classified at the poverty level and one-fourth of that population are classified as intergenerational poverty students. When students enter kindergarten, generally 50% or more score well below grade-level on our benchmark assessments. Regardless of these disadvantages, these students are excited to learn.
