In this era of technology, it would be foolish not to use all of the vast amounts of resources available for teachers . My students all read at varying levels, and therefore, need more resources than a single classroom can hold. This school year, I discovered several programs that offer an entire library of books right at their fingertips. This has increased their love of reading exponentially. However, I want to take this a step further. A read aloud can make the difference for a student who struggles with reading. A new tool I've recently begun using has not only a library for students to select from, but also has a multitude of books that can be listened to as a read aloud. Research continues to show the importance of books being read aloud even in the upper elementary classroom. I think giving students another opportunity to hear a read aloud on a book of their choice will continue to set that high standard of reading for my students. Students are more motivated to pay attention to reading when they are able to read something that they choose. With headphones, I hope to increase the use of these read aloud programs more than ever before. Students will be able to listen to a read aloud that they are interested in, and better manage their own learning more than ever before.
