  • Reading Is Dreaming With Eyes Wide Open!

    Funded Jul 8, 2018

Thank you so much for everything you've done for my students! Because of you, we have a special place in my classroom that is cultivated by the love of reading. My students LOVE running over to our classroom library and choosing a new book every other week. Sometimes... they even prefer the classroom library to the school library! :)

The variety of books within my library make it possible for every student to find something to enjoy. Many times, I will grab a mentor text to really focus on the skills we're practicing each week. For example, books that you've provided for us have given my students a deeper understanding on determining author's purpose, summarizing, and theme. The students LOVE when we use our books to practice skills. My library is the center of our classroom. It is also a safe place for two of my special education students. When they need a break, instead of playing on the iPad... THEY CHOOSE and would RATHER go sit in our library and grab a book t read. How incredible is it that you've made such a difference?

Thanks so much for everything you've done for our class this year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Moore

I hope to inspire my students to expand their knowledge, increase their vocabulary, and hopefully become life-long readers by simply picking up a book within our classroom library. As a new teacher, resources are slim, but our students are still our number one priority. My students come from a low-income neighborhood, where reading may not be fostered within their household. My goal is to have a classroom library that inspires my students to find magic between then pages of a simple book. My hopes are that my classroom library will be a place that my students can really enjoy—I will read on the carpet to them daily, allow them to complete work there, choose books to read independently, and take pride in displaying each completed book! By being granted new books, my students will be taught responsibility as they will treat the library with love and care, the books with complete respect, and show gratitude for the opportunity and ability to be able to read and be read to. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books, at multiple levels, with the same purpose...creating life-long readers!
