We Play & Put Away In Pre-K
Funded Oct 3, 2011I would like to thank you for making my project, We Play&Put Away In Pre-K, a reality. My students have gotten off to a great start in a safe and organized classroom. I notice the difference every day.
The new All-Purpose Storage Unit is large enough to accommodate our various transportation and construction materials. The storage bins and trays fit well in the divided compartments. Our blocks, Lincoln Logs, train set, community buildings, cars, and other vehicles for construction workers & emergency personnel each have a dedicated space. Our clean-up time has been cut in half! Although everything we do has a purpose, including our routine for putting things away, we can now sing a couple of additional songs or read another story. Every minute counts!
I no longer dread the inevitable moment when we flip the light switch to signal, "Time to Clean Up!" It's just another transition in our day that goes so smoothly thanks to your kind generosity.”

Mrs. CUEVA
Publish & Preserve Precious Projects In Pre-K
Funded Nov 3, 2011I would like to again thank everyone who made my project, 'Publish&Preserve Precious Projects In Pre-K' a reality. Anonymous got us off to a fabulous start and my family members followed. Ben Joyce generously contributed and First 5 LA came through with matching funds. My students, their families, and I are touched by your support that will preserve their precious milestones.
Due to safety and privacy requirements, the photos I've posted don't accurately reflect the impact these materials have had. My students have used the magnetic nameplates to display self-selected classwork on the whiteboard and the expanding Art Gallery is quite a sight! They can write their own name on the magnet and post their masterpiece for all to enjoy. It is so exciting to have a laminating machine in our classroom! Although it can't be operated when students are present, there's nothing that prevents my assistant or a parent volunteer from laminating a few items while we're outside. The children regard it as some type of magic. The HP printer is scheduled for installation this week and will play a big part in our holiday projects.
I believe in celebrating the achievements of my young learners, but not with stickers or prizes from a box. By focusing on the actual accomplishment, success becomes the reward. Your kind generosity will motivate my students and preserve their precious projects. Thank you for providing the materials and opportunities that will truly make a difference!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. CUEVA

Funded Nov 1, 2011I would like to thank everyone who made my project, 'It's All About The Drama In Pre-K!' a reality. First 5 LA started us off with a Match Offer followed by contributions from T. Bruce and bruce. Anonymous added a generous donation that completed the funding. What a welcome surprise!
My students can't get enough of our new Deluxe Railway Set. Initially, they were just pleased that the train stayed on the track, but the set includes many features our previous one didn't have. The bridges, cranes, switches, and roundhouse present additional options and new challenges. The opportunities for interaction promote oral language, problem solving, and teamwork. The Dollhouse, Nursery, and Outdoor furniture has refurbished our dollhouse and renewed the children's interest. They are acquiring new vocabulary including China cabinet, grandfather clock, checkerboard table, and lawn chairs. It's been fun to listen in on their role-playing dialogue The vacuum cleaner has created a cleaning frenzy in the House Center. Although I've shown the cash register, tool set, and safety vehicles to my students, we will incorporate them into the centers after Thanksgiving. They are quite excited!
Skills that foster cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development are found in dramatic play. The activities also offer learning opportunities incorporating visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile modalities. While all are important components of our curriculum, the new materials have boosted creativity and inspiration. Instructional noise has never sounded so good! Thanks to all for your kind generosity.”

Funded Oct 10, 2011I would like to thank you for making my project, Amazing Mathmagicians In Pre-K, a reality. Yahoo! Homepages for Homerooms provided the initial opportunity and mark owens finished the funding to the great delight of my students. My little mathmagicians have been very busy!
Laundry is a favorite task as they separate socks into the Know Your Colors Sorting Baskets. The Counting Cakes make every day a math-related birthday party. Students practice geometry skills as they work with the jewels in the Hands-On Shape Matching Center. The magic of music always makes learning both fun and productive. Greg & Steve, Dr. Jean, and Jack Hartmann have us singing and dancing about shapes, numbers, and calendar concepts.
The resources and materials you have generously provided have filled our classroom with developmentally appropriate activities that build, reinforce, and enrich a variety of math concepts. My amazing mathmagicians can't get enough! That's just the way I like it. Thank you for supporting my young learners.”

Success In Pre-K Is A Hop, Skip, & Leap Away
Funded Aug 24, 2011I would like to thank everyone who made my project, Success In Pre-K Is A Hop, Skip,& Leap Away, a reality. First 5 LA got things off to a great start with a pledge to match funds. Family members pitched in and Mr. and Mrs. Rist kindly completed the project.
My students have thoroughly enjoyed the LeapFrog Leapster2 System. The Leapsters are simple to maneuver and operate. The children have actually taught me a few things about them! Dora, Nemo, and the Disney Princesses have been helping them practice the alphabet, rhyming words, and new vocabulary words. Batman and Ratatouille focus on shapes, numbers, and other math concepts. The games from Scholastic include puzzles and observation activities. All are like overflowing treasure chests!
My students look forward to their turns and appreciate the portability of the Leapsters. Unlike our classroom computer, they may work wherever they wish. There have been some unexpected outcomes, as well. Patience and cooperation between students are in full swing.
The LeapFrog Leapster2 System provides opportunities to practice essential literacy, math, and English skills. In addition, my young learners gain a sense of competency and success that will encourage achievement in Kindergarten and beyond. Thanks again to everyone who made this all possible. We couldn't have done it without you!”

Funded Sep 13, 2011I would like to thank everyone who made my project, Making Our Mark In Pre-K, a reality. Yahoo's Homepages For Homerooms provided the opportunity for funding via votes and we won! We were off to a great start and with the support of JOSE, Kevin Hart, and Ben, this project was fully funded!
Your donations made it possible to begin the school year with fun and photographs. Having the computer ink and photo paper on hand allowed me to take pictures and print them on the very same day! Although a commonplace event for most, this was an exciting triumph for me. We're going to the farm at the end of the week. I look forward to surprising the families on Monday with photo displays to commemorate our first field trip of the year. As you can see in the pictures I posted on Donors Choose, my students have enjoyed the new, colorful ink pads. The best part is they can get ink on the stamps, but not all over their hands. Their parents particularly appreciate this!
As we continue to utilize these materials throughout the school year, my students and I will keep in mind that they were provided by some thoughtful individuals we don't even know. Thanks to all for your kind generosity.”

Clutter-Free Classroom Is Key In Pre-K
Funded Sep 21, 2011I would like to thank everyone who made my project, Clutter-Free Classroom Is Key In Pre-K, a reality. Yahoo's Homepages for Homerooms provided the opportunity to obtain the majority of the funding. My family members pitched in and Cindy Tan finished it off. My students and I feel quite fortunate. It may sound like an exaggeration to say the Spacemaker Storage Unit with bins has been life-changing, but it's so true! My students have no problem finding what they're looking for and taking it out with ease. Gone are the days of puzzle avalanches and a mishmash of manipulatives. When parents volunteer in our classroom, the children proudly demonstrate their independence and responsibility at clean-up time. Their parents are impressed and I am relieved!
We now have a safe classroom environment that is conducive to academic achievement and aesthetically appealing, too. The organization our Spacemaker Storage Unit provides will maximize children's access to the various learning experiences and make this a fantastic school year. Thanks to all for your kind generosity.

Pre-K Achievement is King With The Midas Touch
Funded Aug 9, 2011I would like to thank everyone who made my project, Pre-K Achievement is King With The Midas Touch, a reality. The NCAA surprised me with a generous donation that got this project going. Luck struck again when First 5 LA provided funds with their Match Offer. No less important are the rest of you who completed this project. My students and I are touched by everyone's commitment to Early Education. My students have enjoyed the new additions to our Alphabet Book Collection. I look forward to sharing Calavera Abecedario during the upcoming Halloween and Day of the Dead festivities. Additional copies of The King School Series Collection are always welcome. We now have enough that I can allow children to check books out for use at home. Obviously, our Hewlett-Packard TouchSmart All-In-One Computer is the new star in our classroom. It's speed, ease of use, and amazing screen quality are incredible. It's mesmerizing!
We've also been able to utilize the educational software provided by the publisher of our literacy program. My students have enjoyed the learning games and I've finally been able to access the photo library at school. This school year is off to a dynamic start! Thanks to all for your kind generosity.”

Funded Aug 31, 2011I would like to thank everyone who made my project, We're Touchy Feely In Pre-K, a reality. Yahoo 's Homepages for Homerooms provided the opportunity to obtain the majority of the funding and the rest of you finished it off. My students are definitely the lucky ones. The Water&Sand Table has provided both fun and refreshment for my new class in their first days of school. We've had temperatures well over 100 degrees and I think if they could hop in one of the tubs, they would! Instead, they've been busy pouring, measuring, straining, and squirting. We've also added dish soap and sponges for some bubbly play. The lids have helped keep leaves and thirsty bugs out of the water when not in use.
The colored play dough is another favorite activity. Students have enjoyed cutting out animals and baking 'pies' at a table under a shady tree. As they roll, flatten, and slice, their creative language just flows. It is an exciting process to watch. I've made a few creations of my own!
The Water & Sand Table and tubs of play dough will foster my students' cognitive, physical, and social development and enhance all areas of the curriculum. Our new school year is off to an exciting, hands-on start! Thanks to all for your kind generosity.”

Love Of Literacy Is King In Pre-K
Funded Jun 14, 2011I would like to thank everyone who made my project, Love Of Literacy Is King In Pre-K, a reality. Townsend Press got things started with the generous Almost Home funding. Eternal C, bruce, and Callan Cueva added to the pot and the collaborative effort was a success!
The 20-Compartment Cabinet with containers is both functional and aesthetically appealing. Most of my cabinets are older than my students' parents. This new cabinet provides a foolproof organizational system in a pretty package! More King Series Readers are always welcome. We use them multiple times each day during Lap Reading, Center Time, Small Groups, etc. The English Alphabet Books complement the set of Spanish Alphabet Books already in the classroom. The Sing-Along Read-Along Classics with CDs has provided much fun as we sing 'This Old Man' and 'The Wheels On The Bus' while following along in the companion books.
As my young learners begin their academic adventures, promoting a love of literature is key to their success. I wish to foster and facilitate my students' access to as many books as I can and, thanks to your kind generosity, I will!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. CUEVA
