I work in an extremely disadvantaged area of the South Bronx. Students look to our classroom as their means of a consistent safe, healthy and secure environment. Our classroom is cozy, comfortable and kid friendly. We decorate our room with a print rich environment of charts and colorful student classwork. We celebrate our work for everyone to admire. We establish a system of rules and maintain boundaries together so we learn to respect, accept and cooperate with one another. We are a class that supports one another and encourages each other to be the best person they can be and to believe in yourself. We laugh, learn, and care about one another. We are great listeners and story tellers. Together we focus on being functioning and responsible citizens in this world. We try our best to be mindful and understanding of each others differences and always try to speak kind to one another.
