My name is Coralie Hook a 4th grade teacher at P.S 262 located at 500 Macon Street, Brooklyn NY 11233. It's my first year teaching 4th grade. It's my first year teaching the Journeys curriculum. It's also the first school I've been in that required students work to be typed but doesn't have a computer lab or laptops for each child.
My students learn in different ways that require support. I don't have a co teacher, aide or para inside my classroom. My students are also on different levels. As a teacher, I'm required to motive, model, guide, reteach, enrich and support during independent practice. This requires timeless planning, resources and materials.
The beginning of the year it took me about two weeks to publish my students work. Now, that we have donations of laptops, my students produce and publish their work in one week.
Many of my students need (AIS) Academic intervention services. These services are provided either one to one, in a group and independently on a program called Imagine Learning. Imagine Learning requires my students to go online every day for 10-15 minutes. Prior to getting the laptops my students were able to get on once or twice a week. Now my students are able to go on daily.
Some of my students have IEP's Individualized education Program. IEP is a document that is developed for each public school child who needs special education. Some of my students have learning disabilities, behavioral, and emotional disabilities. The laptops allow my students to speak what they want to write, ask questions, research using their voice and explore without judgment.
Students who were ashamed of their writing are no longer ashamed. Students who did not have confidence in their writing write now. Students whom normally wouldn't answer question, ask Crotona, and raise their hand with the right answer. These donations act as an aide, co teacher and a para all in one. I have been able to download software to support each child's personal needs.
Thanks so much for your donation to children in need. You are really making a difference in 4-215 P.S. 262 500 Macon Street, Brooklyn NY 11233.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hook
