My project is to start a maker space within my library for the younger students in our school. My hope is to start with the Pre-K to 1st grade groups and then add and expand to include each grade level on our campus up to 5th grade. Maker spaces are about giving students freedom to explore their interests and create tangible works that they can use in class and at home. This will give students a platform to use existing knowledge to create, make, produce, explore, problem solve, imagine, and work with others. Our library is more than just books. Our library is the hub of learning on our campus and I want to take it to the next level. The Wonder Workshop Dash Robot, Fisher-Price Think & Learn Teach, and the ThinkFun Robot Turtles board game will all be used to teach beginner level coding and robotics skills. The Kid Made Modern Arts and Crafts will be used for students to creatively express themselves with self directed art projects and craft projects from how-to diagrams. These will develop planning skills and teach how to read and follow directions. The Lego Classic Large Creative Brick will be used at our activity table to build and explore architectural concepts at a beginner level.
